Twin names Olive and Ivy

Honest thoughts on names Olive and Ivy. Expecting twin girls at the end of June and still debating names. We like Amber and Zara as we feel they are ‘safer’ names but have always loved Olive and Ivy but not sure if too out there.

I know a lovely set of sisters called Olive and Ivy.
Equally love pp's suggestion of Edith and Ivy & Zara and Ivy.

Amber and Zara are much better, and I don’t even like Amber that much.

Olive and Ivy sound like two pinched old ladies.

I love all your suggestions they are so gorgeous! Don’t stress too much if you read one insulting comment about a name set, no matter what you choose someone will have a very negative opinion.. I found that with my twins! My girls are Matilda & Eliza... good luck and congratulations Flowers

My great gran and her twin sister were Kitty Iris and Ivy Olive. Funny how names come back around again.

Olive, Ivy, Edith are the type of names I grew up with. They were the names of old women who wore hairnets and crimpoline and knickers with legs down to their knees.

A definite no from me.

They are all nice names.
I actually think Amber and Zara would be the more interesting and unusual combination though, as both Olive and (especially) Ivy are very popular at the moment.
Also, not sure if you are aware of the Scarlett and Ivy books (about twin girls at a boarding school).

Amber really don’t like
Id vote Ivy & Zara especially as they sound very different in sound & style which I think is good for twins

Don't like either, sorry. I'm not generally a fan of this granny name trend (or should that be great granny?) with a small number of exceptions. I'm in my 30s and would have grown up thinking these names were extremely old fashioned and dowdy.

Amber and Zara are much nicer IMO.

Olive and Ivy makes me thing of 'The Holly and the Ivy' for some reason, I know it's not the same but it was my first thought.

Sorry but I think Olive is so dreary and depressing. It makes me think of a murky school toilet block or that sad creature from On The Buses
Ivy is a bit affected and too old woman.

I would not match Olive and Ivy it is to " samey" I would go with Olive and Zara or Amber and Ivy I prefer Olive and Zara personally.

Lovely! I didn’t used to be a fan of Olive but it’s growing on me. I love the suggestion someone else made of Edith and Ivy too

Love Ivy, would prefer something else instead of Olive.

Ivy is cute (although does make me think of Poison Ivy) but I have always hated Olive. To me it’s just such an ugly sounding name, very durgey like the colour olive green.

Zara and Ivy would be nice.

Olive and ivy are ok. The only reason I wouldn't call twins by those names is because they are quite alike.

I used to hang out with two sisters called julie and Shirley and we used to confuse their names and call them jirley and shuley. Even their mother used to do this.
