Twin names Olive and Ivy

Honest thoughts on names Olive and Ivy. Expecting twin girls at the end of June and still debating names. We like Amber and Zara as we feel they are ‘safer’ names but have always loved Olive and Ivy but not sure if too out there.

I prefer Olivia and Evelyn but I guess you might think them too popular.

BunnyBob · 24/04/2019 08:21

No!! Olive is far too close to Holly!! My first reaction was 'The holly and the Ivy, when they are both full grown, of all the trees that are in the wood, the holly bears the crown'.

Lovely names, but not for twins!

Ivy is nicer than Olive, so keep Ivy and choose another name for Olive:
Olivia?
Fern?
Lily
Iris
Violet
Hazel
Pearl

I like Fern best!

Olive and Ivy are really lovely names.

Amber and Zara are popular names on Love Island. I don't watch it but I'm aware there were at least a couple called that this time round. Hopefully that won't still be a thing when they're older, but who knows...

I think Olive and Ivy will date less.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 24/04/2019 08:06

Love both.

MrsBungle · 24/04/2019 08:00

All nice names bar Olive in my opinion. Olive is so frumpy and dowdy.

Joeybee · 24/04/2019 07:57

Olive and Ivy are FANTASTIC names!

Tavannach · 24/04/2019 01:30

I like Zara and Amber. Ivy's okay. Olive is ghastly imo. Much prefer Olivia but it is very popular.

ReSistingPink · 24/04/2019 01:25

Olive and Ivy are gorgeous names for twin girls. Just beautiful.

Singlenotsingle · 24/04/2019 00:52

No - Olive Oyl? Olive on the buses?
Ivy slightly better, but Amber and Zara much better.

Kokeshi123 · 24/04/2019 00:49

Too many sounds in common, and yes, Ollie and Ivy.

Ivy and Zara, or Amber and Zara would be better.

girlsname · 24/04/2019 00:16

Olive and Ivy sound lovely together! Ivy isn't 'out there' either, it's very popular at the moment.

PrincessLouis · 23/04/2019 22:50

The Holly & the Ivy is an issue for me too sorry

MikeUniformMike · 23/04/2019 20:53

I don't like Olive and Ivy. Amber and Zara are much nicer.

whitehalleve · 23/04/2019 20:31

It makes me think of the holly and the ivy too

IceRebel · 23/04/2019 20:26

Olive and Ivy, nope all i'm hearing is Holly and Ivy.

I'm another who prefers Zara and Amber, they don't run into each other. Which is so important, as twin names will be said together for a long time.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 23/04/2019 20:22

Both are so so so so prevalent nowadays and are the v2.0 “old lady names” of the Rubys and Ethels of a decade back.

I find Olive much more palatable than Ivy, but I’m biased as I was brought up 80s Corrie.

BlueMerchant · 23/04/2019 20:17

Amber and Zara are lovely.
Olive and Ivy sound like a gruesome twosome. Grin

Elmo303 · 23/04/2019 20:13

Love Olive, think Ivy is a bit bland in comparison. What about Olive and Pearl? Or Zara and Pearl? Sound really pretty together and a bit more unusual.

KittyMcKitty · 23/04/2019 19:53

Olive and Ivy are fab!!

veeboo · 23/04/2019 19:51

I love Olive and DPs grandma had that name so it's definitely on our list. I also love your 'safer' choices but Olive is my favourite.

mumofthehs · 23/04/2019 19:46

Olive and Ivy are just beautiful. They are beautiful together and beautiful as separates.

Zillaindie · 23/04/2019 13:40

Love the names, however as a mum of twins, always, always ways, say the same out loud regularly before you decide.

You have to make sure the 'and' fits inbetween properly as otherwise it can be a bit clunky (and people may think you have called your child 'Ann-Ivy'......or 'AnOlive')

You will spend your life time saying both names together.

Wildrose19 · 23/04/2019 13:14

Really awful especially Olive sorry but assume you are too young to know Olive from On the Buses and Ivy Tilsley from Coronation St.

Kel801 · 23/04/2019 13:14

@Greentulips nope I’m with you . Both lovely names but not for twins .

Justus22 · 23/04/2019 13:10

I know two little girls who are sisters born 3 years apart but share the same birthday, that are called Olive and Ivy. They are gorgeous girls with a lovely family so I love those names.
