Name for potential DS

Don't hold back, but try to be constructive please. If you don't like, can you explain exactly why?

Buzz is a nickname, his real name is Edwin.

grumpyyetgorgeous · 22/04/2019 15:57

If you really like the name how about choosing a more mainstream name that could conceivably have the nickname "Buzz" then your dc has options if they hate it?

TooTrueToBeGood · 22/04/2019 15:56

The danger with giving a child an out there name is you risk setting them up for years of bullying and mickey taking. If a child at my school had been called Buzz I can pretty much guarantee he'd have become the boy who's dad was a vibrator.

PotteringAlong · 22/04/2019 15:54

It’s a nickname. And as others have said, Buzz Aldrin’s Name wasn’t Buzz. It’s a name that’s trying to be different for the sake of being different. There’s a whole gauntlet of proper names out there. Pick one.

I think of Buzz from Home Alone and he was a total Arse (apart from a bit at the end). Then I think of Lightyear and as great as that film is, it lends itself to a lot of jokes.

Obviously I know who Aldrin is but he didn’t pop into my head until you mentioned it!

Thesearmsofmine · 22/04/2019 15:51

Buzz Aldrin wasn’t named Buzz, he was called Edwin. Buzz was a nickname at first.

Buzz just makes me think of the smug one from Mcfly and his equally smug wife.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/04/2019 15:50

It's horrible because it's ridiculous. Unless, of course, you're a cartoon action hero or a bumble bee. As a name for a person it has no dignity or power.

ArnoldBee · 22/04/2019 15:49

It's my son's nickname. I do get odd looks when people think it's his actual name.

HopeMatters · 22/04/2019 15:49

It's just kind of silly. It's more of a nickname, and those just tend to appear over time, you can't dictate them.

Please give your child an actual name!

missmouse101 · 22/04/2019 15:48

It's a noise not a name. And totally irritating at that.

pallisers · 22/04/2019 15:47

awful and try hard. it is a nickname. Buzz Aldrin wasn't actually called Buzz.

BloomsButtons · 22/04/2019 15:47

Buzz won't suit a grown man at all. I would wonder what it was short for? Buzz as a nickname might be doable, especially within the family but not as a stand alone name.

Lost5stone · 22/04/2019 15:46

I agree its try hard

AlwaysFuckingTired94 · 22/04/2019 15:46

I was thinking more Buzz Aldrin. But I don't think lightyear is a bad association

Don’t be silly.

Cheekyfeckery · 22/04/2019 15:44

It’s a name that says to me ‘we’re trying too hard’.

And Buzz Lightyear obviously.

But what do I know? I had Elvis floating around for a while for DS1.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 22/04/2019 15:44

as in Lightyear?
