Buzz cut was my first thought. It's beyond silly I'm afraid but fine as a nickname.

Sorry, not constructive. It's just a noise. You could get away with it in the states as a nickname I think, but UK a definite no. Its a wannabe hipster type name...although can't even describe it as a name...its just not! It's the noise a bee makes. The poor kid will be teased his entire life.

I like it. I'd probably try and come up with a longer name and use Buzz as a full time nickname. Buster? Albus? Barnabus? At a stretch Sebastian.

Re Ted: my dad was known as Teddy as a child and as Ted as a grown up. He was a teacher so clearly attained some level of gravitas. He was literally universally Ted, though it was a nickname. Funnily enough his name was Edwin, I never heard anyone call him Buzz tho 😂😂

Interesting that ‘Frank Skinner’ had a completely different name but changed it to FS when he started out in showbiz. He lumbered his son with Buzz but called himself a fairly nice name, what a cunt.

A good test, I found for name choosing is, would you want this name?

Buzz hasn’t got the best reception on here, but I actually quite like it. I can see a grown man with that name, as well as a toddler.

I much prefer it to the -ie ending names such as Albie, Alfie, Archie. Buzz sounds strong to me.

Ted is a normal, short name. Buzz isn't.

But all the Teddy's I know are Teddy, not a version of anything else. And their mothers are quite insistent that they are called by that. So the only name to change it to in later life is Ted, which is equally as plain as Buzz. Just my opinion, I'm yet to meet a boardroom Teddy but it'll happen! All those quoted are Ted, not Teddy. I just can't see anyone wanting to go through life as a Teddy bear, just like this child probably wouldn't want to be a Buzz Lightyear 🤷‍♀️

I'm not sure Teddy's quite the same as Buzz, though: Teddy's a regular, quite posh abbreviation of Edward and Theodore, and can be shortened to the less cute Ted. There are plenty of boardroom Teds: Teddy Roosevelt, Ted Kennedy, Ted Hughes, Ted Heath Ted Crilly There's nowhere to go with Buzz.

To me, it's not even a proper name and to burden a child with such a silly name is just irresponsible.

Plus that twit from McFly named one of his Buzz - nuff said.

I used to work with a Buzz. He was a medical doctor and was the most humourless man I’ve ever met. It probably stemmed from being asked most days “as in Aldrin?” and / or “as in Lightyear?”

Everyone saying Buzz won't follow the child as it grows, yet what about all those children called Teddy? I've said it before on a thread that I honestly cannot imagine calling someone Teddy across the boardroom. But times have changed and we all have to adapt, so I'm sure if you name him Buzz everyone will just get used to calling him it, just like we're all now used to the name Teddy 😳 I currently work with someone called Talulah, I'm sure it sounded really cute as a child but it's odd in a meeting situation.

The celeb offspring of attention seekers like McFly and Frank Skinner will probably end up changing their names as soon as they are able to. Buzz is just shit, not even cute on a 2 year old IMO.
