Thoughts on Talia or Thea (Thee-ah) as a girls name. Which do you prefer? what are your thoughts on either?

Thank you Smile

If you want a strong name, then Talia. Thea is the opposite of strong IMO, it's a weak, wet sort of name.

Mymycherrypie · 19/04/2019 22:11

The only issue with Talia is that a lot of people will say it differently. Ala Michelle vs Meeee-chelle. My brother has a Talia and she is either Tah-lee-ya, Tar-lee-ya or Tah-lia.

I like Thea. Athena even more.

SherlockSays · 19/04/2019 22:07

Must be dependent on area.. I'm in West Yorkshire I've never come across a single Thea and whenever I tell people her name they say it's 'unusual'. There isn't another in her (huge) nursery or any baby groups we've been to.

I love the name T(h)alia. I have taught a fair few Thea and Theos.

Bythebeach · 19/04/2019 20:34

Lots of T(h)alias around our way although like it as a name. Expect Thea will go the same way but absolutely love it - had 3 boys so it’s the dog’s name. Grin

I actually prefer the spelling Thalia than Talia but it seems there is a lot of confusion with the pronunciation even though it's a biblical name and pretty established

How are you pronouncing Talia?

Tail-eeah, tah-leah, ? (Both will probably be squashed to Tail-ya or Tahl-ya)

Not keen myself. But I do like Thea Smile

AVeryGoodBadIdea · 19/04/2019 20:21

Both are lovely.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 19/04/2019 20:14

Talia is gorgeous not so fond of Thea. I have only ever known one Talia, a friend of my teenage dc and she's a lovely girl inside and out.

ScreamingValenta · 19/04/2019 20:13

What about Thalia?

Roseredwine12 · 19/04/2019 20:11

Thanks ladies for the feedback! Really pleased that both names are liked and you get positive feedback for those that have chosen name for DD.
Think both are lovely, strong names

DD is Thea and we love it. Our second choice was Thalia so we obviously have very similar tastes - both are beautiful.

Bumblebeesmum · 19/04/2019 20:02

I like both but prefer Thea either standalone or as a nickname for Theadora or Dorathea

OldAndWornOut · 19/04/2019 19:50

I love both names. Smile

Enwi · 19/04/2019 19:48

I like both actually. I love Thea and we’re considering it for DC2. Some people may be put off by the fact it has become quite popular. I’m not personally.
