Hi,
I am loving Maribel and the French meaning "star of the sea, beautiful" as we found out we were pregnant whilst holidaying at the beach.
The nickname we would use would be Belle.
But is this name a bit out there? I come from a very conservative family.
Any feedback appreciated 😀

Meriel is Celtic, meaning Bright Sea and a little more common I'd imagine. I have known two, both shortened to Merry/Merri

It doesn’t mean star of the sea. It means ‘Mary is beautiful’. Confused

Stella Maris means star of the sea.

Maribel doesn't mean star of the sea by any stretch of the imagination. It's a version of Mary.

It's a popular name in Puerto Rico. I worked with a lovely Puerto Rican Maribel years ago. She was named after her aunt and great grandma.

I love the name.

I absolutely adore it. Brilliant choice, and nice nickname options. It's perfect, imo.

Marisol looks pretty too, but the meaning isn't as nice.

I think it’s lovely. Those who say they can’t envisage an adult with that name- I think the same of all the bell names (Isabelle, Rosabelle, Annabelle, Arabella etc). But by the time that generation are adults it’ll be perfectly normal.

I love then meaning but the name isn't as cute as it should be. Marnie has a similar meaning.

If you love it but think it's too unusual, use it for a middle name. Clara Maribel or whatever. It would go with a lot of names.

Maybe take a name from that name? Like Mabel Or Belle or mari? I like the name you have thought of, really different I've never heard of it before ❤️
