Anyone here with a Sebastian?

Just wondering how the name has been received by family / friends?

Do they automatically end up being called Seb?

Is it a particularly common name for babies where you live?

He is 3, by the way, and the others we meet tend to be 5 and under too.

I don’t have one but my best friend does. He is never Seb (God forbid!) but personally I do find the full name a bit of a mouthful sometimes. It’s pretty popular where we are but still a lovely, solid name.

We have two friends with children that name. They are both known as Seb. One child is 14 and the other is 3.
Both sets of parents use the shortened name.

I think people regard it as 'posh' but personally I don't see that as a bad thing

My nephew is Sebastian and he gets called Sebby or Basty.

Personally I like Sebastian but don't like either nickname, they sound soft and oily (sebaceous).

I have an 8 yr old Sebastian! There aren't that many around but oddly enough there is another in his class at school. Mine is known as Sebastian at school because the other is Seb. We called him Sebby until recently when he told us he prefers Seb now. He gets the full SEBASTIAN when he's in trouble . Most people say they really like the name but I had one old cow who worked in the shop down the road sneer and say "that's posh isn't it". We live in Scotland in the Central Belt and I don't hear of too many other Sebastians.
I still love his name and think it's a really good solid name for when he grows up.

I have one, it’s not common where I am)West Yorkshire) and when he was born(8 years ago) the midwife said it was the first one she had heard of in around 25 years of career.

Most people really like it, we had a lot of compliments, only the in-laws didn’t like it but it’s grown on them over the years but they only use Sebastian never Seb.

He is a Seb to most of us but I quite like Seb so it’s fine by me and he has various other nicknames from family members.
