I've known 2 Carolines who both used Kay(e) for short.

I think of Sir Kay from the Arthurian legend, or a girl I knew at primary school in the 1960s. Definitely prefer it without the E.

I have friends called Kaye and Kay, and I think both names are lovely. But we’re all in our 50s....

It’s pretty dated but not awful. I had friend’s mum called this when I was young so I’ve always viewed it as a very middle aged name. To be fair I do know one in her early 20s but I was a little surprised when I heard it!

I only know one, in her 70s. I am unable to think of her name without mentally inserting the word "special" in front of it. I think K is also the street name for ketamine.

I love Kay (no e)! I had a friend at school called Kay and always thought her name was so pretty and exotic 😂
You could always have Katelyn (another name I love) and shorten?

Kay is the name of a catalogue forever in my. brain, sorry.

The only Lay I do know is pushing 60 and has short 'funky' hair and wears those drapey clothes aimed at older women.

I know two Kay's. One is almost 70. The other is mid 30s.

I've never met a Kaye though.

I know a few Kay’s in their 30s so don’t think of it as an old lady name at all. Don’t know any younger ones, but to me it’s not a particularly dated name, just never been common. I like it! I was always under the impression that Kaye was the male spelling though (and personally prefer Kay)

I know a teenage Kay. I was at at school with a couple in the seventies. I prefer Kay to Kaye. Whilst it wouldn't be my choice, I think it is fine. I prefer it to some of the granny-chic names.

For all these posters saying it's dull, dated, boring and middle-aged - you know that in the next generation it will be seen as sophisticated, chic and interesting (just like all the 'granny' names are in now) Wink if you like it, go for it! There is nothing remotely offensive about it, I think it's quite nice. You know she will be the only one in her class with it at least!

My Aunty Kathleen was always Kay. My dad called her Kitty.

I'm a Kay. Didn't realise it was hated so much 😂 I wouldnt necessarily choose it myself - it's annoying being called Kate and always having to spell it out. But I've always thought it was relatively inoffensive. Also, I'm under 40 so not so aged!

I know 2 Kays both in their 50s. But more common for people in their 60s, I think. Not sure if it’s old enough to be granny chic. Reminds me of Carol and Jenny.

At the risk of outing myself, it's my name I'm not frumpy or dated and am complimented on my unusual name. Do not spell with an e! I'm often called Kate in error. 😛. Btw! It doesn't happen after polite correction. Proud of being a Kay! We rock!
