Rosaline or Elizabeth?

Rosaline Is beautiful and goes well with Margot IMO. Evangeline is nice but it is no where near as lovely as Rosaline or Elizabeth (lovely classic name)

Love Rosaline with Margot, but pronounced Rose-a-leen. Not keen on the Roz sound, sounds dated. Or how about Rosa if DH doesn’t like Rosalie?

I really don't like Rosaline. It's very dated but not in a good way. Also I'd automatically pronounce it 'Rose-a-leen'. It wouldnt cross my mind to say 'Roz-a-line' so you might have some pronounciation issues. I usually love the 'line' sound in names (think Caroline and Adeline are lovely) but I really dislike the 'Roz' sound (and this would very likely be her nickname, at least with her own friends, as it's the natural shortening). When I think of a Rosaline (or Roz) I think of someone's dull, slightly annoying colleague who is no good at her job but has been at the company years which is why she's still there. She also smells a bit musty and has lots of cats. Margot is a fabulous name! It's cute, vintage, but also a bit edgy and really cool. I think Margot's sister deserves an equally amazing name! I would 100% go for Elizabeth because I think Margot and Eliza or Margot and Betsy or Margot and Betty - basically Margot and any one of Elizabeth's lovely nicknames with sound amazing together! But Margot and Rosaline would make me think 'Poor Roz, she got the sore end of the deal.'

Rosaline is the first woman that Romeo falls in love with in Romeo and Juliet. Will be one of my baby's middle names

My DM is called Rosaline pronounced Roz-a-Lyn. Was originally Rosalind on birth certificate but took the d of as soon as she could as.

My boyfriend and I are expecting our first baby girl but we are really struggling to decide on a name. We have a lot of names that we really like but can’t seem to choose from the list. We draw towards quite unusual names and a lot of the names on the list either have O, V, or L in it or as the first letter.

There's a Rosaline in Shakespeare's Love's Labours Lost and a mention I think in Romeo and Juliet. I'm not personally a fan of the fussy Rose names (I think Rosalie is the worst) as they seem to me to only suit a small number of people. I'm influenced by knowing an adult Rosalie who hated her name and eventually changed it. I love Rose and Rosie though.

Elisabeth/Elizabeth is beautiful and has such strength and a range of possible short forms, so that would be my choice. Either spelling is fine - which one looks good to you?

I love Elizabeth/Elisabeth, maybe with an s has the edge, but both beautiful.

I do like Rosaline, but I wouldn't know if it was line or leen.

If it matters to you, I know many Evangeline s. So many parents of the Evies had the same original idea to use it instead of Evelyn. It's a pretty name but sooo popular.

With Elizabeth though you have a pick of so many versions. is there another girls name that does this? Not a reason to choose this one though.

I think Rosalind is better than Rosaline, but I may be biased. I would pronounce it Ros-a-line not Ros-a-leen.

I think lots of people will pronounce Rosaline ‘wrong’ according to your wishes and you’ll end up correcting constantly.
Agree that Rosalie is better. Elizabeth is lovely, so if you both like it, think this is the better option.

In Ireland, Rosaleen is a common name for ladies of a certain age (same sort of generation as when names like Eileen were popular). It's pronounced to rhyme with cream though, unlike you describe above. I would think that people would assume Rosaline was pronounced like this.

I think Elizabeth is the best girls name ever and so versatile.
Being Romany though anything Rosie related is traditional, so I like this too.
