Aurelia/ Amalia/ Amelia?

We have still not decided on the perfect name and it's proving to be quite a challenge to decide!
We want a name that is

  1. easy to pronounce
  2. fits in with an arab background
  3. Classic, timeless and sophisticated
  4. Sounds pretty and strong I would really love to hear honest opinions! Surname is pretty straightforward and easy to pronounce.

Shortlist:
Aurelia (I am aware of the jellyfish/ areola connection, is this an issue? Also would it seem out of place as a name for an arab baby?)

Amalia (I know this may be confused with Amelia but what do you think of the sound of this name? Does it come across well?)

Amelia (slightly put off by the medical limb abnormality association, but still like it as it works well in both cultures)

Eliana
Aliana (an arabic name, I love the arabic meaning but I don't want this to be perceived as a "made up" name ?)

Sara - lovely but boring to my ears
Any other suggestions?

I love Aurelia. The only reason DD is not caked this is because DH hates the character in Love Actually!

Amelia is nice but there are so many of them right now. Amalia will create constant spelling/pronunciation issues. I agree with this!

Sara will cause pronounciation issues too.

Chocbiccy thank you for those suggestions!! I really like Reem, lovely meaning! Yes, definitely not keen on a ending middle names. I'm also worried about the Noor pronunciation, so I Think I'll rule that one out!

I love both Amalia and Aurelia (only heard it pronounced or-AY-lia). Not so keen on Noor but might be pronouncing it wrong (like Knorr stock pots?).
Eve works well as a middle name. Think I'd avoid another name ending in A.

Sally thanks for the suggestions. I did consider Leila but I just went off it after some time. I am siding towards Aurelia at the moment because I feel that it flows better than Amalia. The long "a" in Amalia seems like quite a mouthful. I don't like Amara.
Have you heard of any middle names that go well with an Arab background and potentially Aurelia as a first name?

Amalia is lovely. People will get used to it. I also love Amara. Have you considered that name? I know 2 girls of Arabic heritage who are called Jennah and Leila. I think they are lovely strong names and quite western too.

Lobster, thank you! I am still undecided however. I'm not sure if the sound of Noor is something that I like, it's very "ooo " heavy..

It really is a beautiful name.
The meaning of Aurelia Noor is lovely. I think it’s one of those names that has more than one acceptable pronunciation, whichever one you choose once you’ve told people once, they’ll remember - don’t worry.
I would say oar ray lia but I’ve seen threads on this name before and it’s usuallt split on how it’s said. Both are fine.

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions! I agree the middle name should not and in an "a" sound.
I like Aurelia Noor as it means golden light
I also love the suggestion of Aurelia Eve.
Any similar suggestions for middle names that would go well with Aurelia?
I Would pronounce it Au ree lia, I just think this flows better? Au ray lia is nice too. Is there a correct pronunciation out of the two or do both work?

I would say Aur - REE - lia.

Middle names: Grace, Blythe, Fay, Joy, Kate.

Still like Noor.

Aurelia is, in my opinion, just such a beautiful name, I would pronounce it ‘or Ray lia’ but i know there are different ways, how are you planning on saying the name?
Middles could be - Aurelia Belle
Aurelia Eve
You’ll need a name that doesn’t end in a hard ‘a’ sound to follow it.

The other one I love from your list is Amalia, I’ve known a little girl with this name - she is about 9 now, it’s never been mispronounced and I think of it as a completely different (& classier name) to Amelia but maybe that’s because I’ve known of a child with the name.

Same problem I had with my daughter. She has a 4 syllable first name so wanted a single syllable middle name. I thought Rose too and it fit her name perfectly but it is so so common. I ended up going against my own rule and gave her Sylvie as a middle name, after a good friend Sylvia, who passed away while I was pregnant.
For me I think Aurelia will stay a classy name and won’t become overused.

OopsOh, now that you've mentioned it, Aurelia Noor is growing on me! I'd like a one syllable middle name ideally but there aren't that many to choose from, Rose is quite common so I want to avoid it.

I'm pretty much set on Aurelia, I totally agree with the issue of Amalia being too similar to Amelia which is so common. Do you think Aurelia is a timeless/ classic name or will it seem dated in a few years time?

Now I just need to choose a middle name!!

I'd go aurelia.
Amelia is too common, and I know an Amalia who is constantly correcting people, on both spelling and pronunciation. I know it is a legitimate name, and quite common in some European countries, but in the UK it will just blend in with all the Amelies and Amelias. Plus her friends call her Marlie as a nn which I don't really like.

I know an Amalia (pronounced like Ah-Marley-Ah but without the R in Marley) and I love it. Mali for short. As far as I'm aware her parents haven't had pronunciation issues from others!

Also as I was typing this, I'm watching season 2 of Sabrina on Netflix and one of the war locks just said his familiar is called Amalia. Spooky....

I love Aurelia, beautiful name. Of those I would go for Aurelia Noor, as too many syllables can be a mouthful.
Would you pronounce Amalia as Ah-marley-uh or Ah-may-lee-uh?

Aurelia Noor flows really well, but in reality middle names aren't used that much.

As before, I really love Aurelia. With Amalia, I'd be a bit unsure as to the pronunciation.

What do you think? These are also options for Amalia. Please let me know if you have any others. :)
