Thoughts on Nevaeh?

Hi, We’re expecting our 5th in June and DH recently suggested the name Nevaeh after hearing it at work, we both really like it but we looked more into it. Just so we could find the correct spelling and a middle name to go with it.

I’m not too keen on the fact it’s spelt heaven backwards, I don’t know why I’m just not. What are you thoughts? Also if you have a middle name idea please put it below so far we have;
•Nevaeh Penelope
•Nevaeh Elizabeth
•Nevaeh Imogen and
•Nevaeh Evelyn

If not what other suggestions do you have, Siblings names are;

•Willow Savannah
•Elijah Joseph
•Isabelle Olivia and
•Lydia Catherine

Thank you.- Tyler.

I really love the sound of it, but I’m not into the backwards spelling. DH still loves it, so it’s going to take some convincing to make him change his mind. Grin My personal favourite at the moment is Maya with the middle name Penelope, but DH said it’s not his favourite.

Ah the OP returns! Are you still considering it?

Tylerjayde · 15/04/2019 13:17

@fairenuff We didn’t know it was heaven backwards until we looked it up, that’s what put us off it in the first place.

Koomoo the way DH heard it pronounced was Na-Vey-Ah.

I know a lovely girl called Neveah. She’s well behaved and tries hard at school. Any teacher would be lucky to teach her.

The one I vaguely know seems like a nice child, too. Nonetheless, someone will be looking at 'Nevaeh' on a list in the future and thinking, 'God, remember when some dimwit started the trend of Heaven backwards as a name?' and that's not a nice way to have yourself encountered for your first contact with potential employers, matches on online dating etc -- looking like someone whose parents had gimmicky taste in names.

It's a vaguely more upmarket version of Khaleesi.

CocoLoco87 · 15/04/2019 12:30

@JurgenKloppsCat Grin that's made me chuckle!

I would rather just use the name Heaven than spell it backwards. It comes across as a bit youneeq. What about Lois?

RuthW · 15/04/2019 12:20

I always thought it was said like Neve. .

JurgenKloppsCat · 15/04/2019 12:13

It's really good. Go for it. I see no downsides to this.

Personally, we never had any more kids after David and Susan. However, if we had been blessed with a third, we were keen on Tarquin Fin-tim-lim-bim-lim-bin-bim-bin-bim bus stop F'tang F'tang Ole Biscuitbarrel. Feel free to take it as it won't get used now, and it took us ages to agree on the exact spelling.

nespressowoo · 15/04/2019 12:07

Neveah is the worst name ever. It isn't even a name. Don't do it.

BlueMerchant · 15/04/2019 11:35

Really don't like it.

lordofthefries · 15/04/2019 11:30

You’ve got Penelope as a middle name, why not use that as it goes well with your other DC. Penelope Elizabeth is beautiful

HoldMyGirl · 15/04/2019 11:27

Your other children have such beautiful and classic names OP, it would just be wrong, IMO, to burden call the next child that.

What about Natasha?

lordofthefries · 15/04/2019 11:22

I think it sounds lovely, but I couldn’t get past the heaven spelled backwards bit. It’s annoying because I think it’s a beautiful name

Fairenuff · 15/04/2019 11:21

Just so we could find the correct spelling

There's only one way to spell it. That's the whole point. Or did you not know that it was heaven spelled backwards?

You could try some other backwards words:

revir
niatnuom
ffilc
wobniar

churchthecat · 15/04/2019 11:20

This is one of those names that is so naff it's almost a joke name.

wowfudge · 15/04/2019 10:54

Well, without wishing to labour the point @zombee I've never heard of the name before reading your post today. The Spanish meaning was the first thing that came to mind seeing it written down.

Beetlewing · 15/04/2019 10:41

How is it pronounced? Like Never? I prefer Ever if that's the kind of sound you like. Never just seems a bit negative

GiantPretzel · 15/04/2019 10:25

Didn't comment on this at first as I thought maybe it was a Gaelic name

Grin

The letter 'v' isn't used in Irish. 'Maeve' for instance is an anglicisation of 'Méabh' -- 'bh' makes the sound of 'v' in Irish, as Siobhán or Sadhbh ('Sive').

Roomba · 15/04/2019 10:12

Didn't comment on this at first as I thought maybe it was a Gaelic name and didn;t wish to offend anyone. But now I know it's not - don't like it. Looks like someone spelled Niamh wrong and heaven backwards is a bit cheesy tbh.

zombee · 15/04/2019 10:02

@wowfudge definitely a good idea to think about those things but in 20 years I've never come across someone being negative about the name, only describing it as unique and beautiful. If it was pronounced the same I could see an issue but it is pronounced "vay-ya" and so the Spanish link isnt considered - even by many Spanish people that I've come across.

HiHoney · 15/04/2019 10:01

It's ridiculous. How about Niamh?

CoisNaFarraige · 15/04/2019 09:58

I prefer Niamh

Niamh follows the rules of prononciation in Irish but Nevaeh or whatever it is is a word backwards which always seems a bit satanic to me!!

I saw on an American board that a woman called her daughter nevaeH and insisted on the capital letter at the end of her child's name, ha ha! cry.

ILoveMaxiBondi · 15/04/2019 09:54

Nevaeh is a shit “name”. I always feel sorry for the children I’ve heard being called it. It reminds me of the idiot who smugly informed me that his yet to be born son would be called “Alucard”. He thought he was so clever. As if no-one would ever work that out 😂

If you like Heaven, then call her Heaven. I’ve never understood why anyone would reverse a name! It’s not original, it’s stupid.
