Thoughts on Nevaeh?

Hi, We’re expecting our 5th in June and DH recently suggested the name Nevaeh after hearing it at work, we both really like it but we looked more into it. Just so we could find the correct spelling and a middle name to go with it.

I’m not too keen on the fact it’s spelt heaven backwards, I don’t know why I’m just not. What are you thoughts? Also if you have a middle name idea please put it below so far we have;
•Nevaeh Penelope
•Nevaeh Elizabeth
•Nevaeh Imogen and
•Nevaeh Evelyn

If not what other suggestions do you have, Siblings names are;

•Willow Savannah
•Elijah Joseph
•Isabelle Olivia and
•Lydia Catherine

Thank you.- Tyler.

Where I am it has connotations of coming from the 'rough' area of town sorry. If you like the sound then Ameya or Ava may work. Imogen is lovely

Tylerjayde · 15/04/2019 23:01

@marthasginyard
I don’t understand how you could be confused, I mean older ladies names. Ones that great grandma would be called like Barbara, Betty, Doris or Gwendolyn (using DH’s and my own great grandmas as examples) I don’t know how else to explain it.

I know one. Her mother introduces her by saying "her name's Neveah... it's heaven backwards, y'know!!!!"

Awful.

GlitterPixie · 15/04/2019 22:58

This is a very very common baby name where I live. I don’t think it’s nice at all it’s often hyphenated Nevaeh-Rose, Neveaeh-May, Nevaeh-Grace etc

AppleKatie · 15/04/2019 22:56

Not offended just bloody confused.

Can you give some other examples of names you do like. Then we might be able to be of some use to you?

MarthasGinYard · 15/04/2019 22:54

'put I don’t like ‘older’ names as in what people would be like my grandma is called that.'

Now I'm really confused Grin

Tylerjayde · 15/04/2019 22:51

@applekatie @marthasginyard @divgirl2 I put I don’t like ‘older’ names as in what people would be like my grandma is called that. I mean names like primrose (reminds me of a rabbit), Clara, Martha or Marigold. I think all of those are lovely names but I personally don’t like names like those.

Not older century names I love those and I personally don’t like the name Niamh as a name for my child since I’ve known a few horrible ones in my time, not that I don’t like the name I think it’s a lovely name in its self but not for my child. Sorry to offend you.

It is definitely pronounced Nevaya. I have taught several, and although it is not my personal taste it is not a name that stands out to me as being particularly awful.

HopeOverAnythingElse · 15/04/2019 21:55

It's not even that it's backwards.

It's that it's backwards - and then mispronounced because Ne-va-eh is clunky to say. I mean, if you're going to reverse a name at least make it a word that resembles something pronounceable.

It's a Boggle name. Don't give your lovely squishy perfect baby a Boggle name.

It's foot down time with the husband! Good luck OP!

NaturatintGoldenChestnut · 15/04/2019 21:53

The only time I've ever heard of this name in real life was watching one of those Trevor Macdonald programmes and it was a name given to the daughters of two female inmates in some prison in the States.

birdgal4848 · 15/04/2019 21:50

It’s just such an American name and a made up one at that....
I don’t think it’s truly awful on its own but next to your other children’s lovely names it will be awful. If you can’t detach yourself from the name...put it as a middle/ second middle name.

mathanxiety · 15/04/2019 21:48

Since you have a Willow already, how about Hazel.

Hazel Nevaeh is not bad.

Other nature names:
Saffron
Sage
Primrose
Cecily

You could use Nevaeh as a middle name for any of those.

OhTheRoses · 15/04/2019 21:43

Beyond awful on more than one level. It will be an embarrassment to the poor child.

Nigella
Naomi

Can't think of many n names.

Couple of names are ok spelt backwards: Anna, Hannah,

Crushedvelvetcouch · 15/04/2019 21:43

How about Romilly, Raphaella, Leocadia, Claudia, Dulcie, Delilah or Esemeralda?
All compliment your existing DC's names.
Nevaeh isn't a name, it has no history and your DD will wonder why her siblings have names with a 'history'whilst hers simply mean 'heaven backwards' Confused

mathanxiety · 15/04/2019 21:42

It's a poor choice, not only because it doesn't go with your other names at all, but also because it's very much considered a hillbilly name both in the US and the UK.

MumUnderTheMoon · 15/04/2019 21:37

Neveah is only a name because it is heaven spelt backwards it is a recent American invention. People will assume you are Christian I would imagine. I really dislike it tbh.

Divgirl2 · 15/04/2019 21:35

Eilijah and Lydia are biblical, Isabelle is from the 12th century. But no, no "old names" for you.

Call her Khaleesi-Nevaeh? No old names there!

Atalune · 15/04/2019 21:34

It’s a tacky name. Don’t do it.

Other names....
Norah
Cassiopeia
Aurelia
Astrid
Aphra

MarthasGinYard · 15/04/2019 21:29

And Eilijah

Well that's Biblical

You don't get much older than that

Confusing Confused

MarthasGinYard · 15/04/2019 21:28

Isabelle

Lydia

Both 'old' names

MarthasGinYard · 15/04/2019 21:28

'I don’t like the name Niamh or any ‘older’ names,'

AppleKatie · 15/04/2019 21:24

How can you a) not like older names and b) have two children called Elijah Joseph and Lydia Catherine Confused

What other names do you think you like now?

Tylerjayde · 15/04/2019 21:04

I’ve clearly said that DH likes the name Nevaeh more than me. I liked it until I looked it up, I saw that it was heaven backwards which I don’t like. I said I like the pronunciation of the name and DH likes it all.

I wasn’t saying that I wanted to call my daughter it because of the fact it’s heaven backwards I think that’s tacky(no offence to parents who have done that) I think that Nevaeh is such a pretty sounding name. It’s pronounced Na-Vey-Ah, the way DH heard it.

Now that I’ve heard such bad things about it I don’t want to call my daughter it, but can seem to get DH off of the idea of it. I don’t like the name Niamh or any ‘older’ names, I just thought that Nevaeh was a pretty name and as for those saying that it doesn’t go with my other children’s names I didn’t know that sibling names had to ‘go’.

Name taste changes over time that’s why I haven’t chosen the name Olivia, Emily, Lillian or another name like.

Thanks to those who have genuinely tried to help me with this situation.
