Thoughts on Nevaeh?

Hi, We’re expecting our 5th in June and DH recently suggested the name Nevaeh after hearing it at work, we both really like it but we looked more into it. Just so we could find the correct spelling and a middle name to go with it.

I’m not too keen on the fact it’s spelt heaven backwards, I don’t know why I’m just not. What are you thoughts? Also if you have a middle name idea please put it below so far we have;
•Nevaeh Penelope
•Nevaeh Elizabeth
•Nevaeh Imogen and
•Nevaeh Evelyn

If not what other suggestions do you have, Siblings names are;

•Willow Savannah
•Elijah Joseph
•Isabelle Olivia and
•Lydia Catherine

Why not just spell Nevaeh as you hear it?

Sorry, but I think Nevaeh is horrible, especially when compared to the beautiful names you chose for your other children. They sound classy Nevaeh sounds chavvy.

DH's list:

Nevaeh *his favourite [Awful, a real burden to a child]
Lola *I’m not keen. [Not too bad, prefer Delilah with Lila for short]
Taylor [Awful; this name does not go with any of your other names]
Ivy [Nice, goes very well with the others]
Harper [Awful, does not go with the others]
Violet [Nice, goes well with the others]
Skye [awful, does not go with the others]
Olivia [Nice, goes well with the others]

Dakota [Seriously? Name does not belong with the others]

DH is adamant that it’ll go with our others names and it’ll sound fine.
Your DH doesn't know his arse from his elbow. It seems from the mixed up list that he honestly doesn't understand that Harriet, Ivy, Grace, Violet, Olivia, Lily , Charlotte, Elsie, Harriet and even Lola on the one hand and Dakota/Taylor/Skye/Nevaeh/Harper on the other will be perceived completely differently by everyone they meet.

Your DH has some sensible names and some really crazy American-style clunkers that are far too modern or unisex or hillbilly to fit in with the other names in your family.

Nevaeh, Taylor, Harper, Skye and Dakota are so far from the cultural references of your existing children's names that people might be forgiven for wondering if they were visiting American cousins from West Virginia

I'd be using my veto on this one, I'm afraid.

I think the pronunciation of it is both ugly and debatable. Heaven spelled backwards is just utterly ridiculous too.

What would happen if you showed DH some of the comments on this thread? Showing someone this thread isn't something I would generally advocate, but perhaps he needs to see a demonstration of what many people's gut reaction to this tacky and chavvy "name" would be, and what he would be saddling his new daughter with.

@lunicorn all of my four have names in the top 100 so wouldn’t want to choose one that isn’t for our fifth.

Nevaeh is 88 in the list. Check the top 100 and pick anything that's not on it

Before DH had heard Nevaeh we had the name Eleanor Charlotte picked out but DH is adamant that it’ll go with our others names and it’ll sound fine. I wasn’t too keen on Eleanor at first but then I loved it, but now one of DH’s friends has used it. I still would like to use that but DH said he doesn’t want to. I hope I’m having a boy now because we’ve picked a name that we both love.

Penelope is my top choice for a middle name, would love it as a first name but DH’s nephews wife is called it and at family events it’d be confusing.

I love a lot of them but DH doesn’t like any of them🙄 why are men so difficult sometimes.

DH needs to cop onto himself and put his preferences aside for a moment.

The poor girl - and you two - will be being silently judged by pretty much everyone you come into contact with.

What people don’t want to say is that it’s a “chav” name. Or it’s common. Straight estate.

But everyone is far too polite to say such a horrid thing.
