Thoughts on Nevaeh?

Tylerjayde · 15/04/2019 01:57

Hi, We’re expecting our 5th in June and DH recently suggested the name Nevaeh after hearing it at work, we both really like it but we looked more into it. Just so we could find the correct spelling and a middle name to go with it.

I’m not too keen on the fact it’s spelt heaven backwards, I don’t know why I’m just not. What are you thoughts? Also if you have a middle name idea please put it below so far we have;
•Nevaeh Penelope
•Nevaeh Elizabeth
•Nevaeh Imogen and
•Nevaeh Evelyn

If not what other suggestions do you have, Siblings names are;

•Willow Savannah
•Elijah Joseph
•Isabelle Olivia and
•Lydia Catherine

Thank you.- Tyler.

Have you cancelled the cheque, Niamh???

YemenRoadYemen · 18/04/2019 07:51

😂

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 18/04/2019 02:57

Not RTFT so this may have been suggested but what about Niamh? Similar sound and it’s actjally a name rather than alphabetti spaghetti randomness.

Topseyt · 18/04/2019 02:19

Naimh is a lovely, traditional Irish name, and nothing remotely
like Nevaeh.

Nevaeh is an utter abomination. Protect your child, OP

AppleKatie · 18/04/2019 00:14

Niamh is a gorgeous name I think everyone’s just scrabbling around for ‘N’ names to offer as reasonable alternatives from the non-name gimmick that is ‘nevaeh’ with it’s made up pronunciation to make you remember ‘Nivea’.

Sorry two glasses of wine and I’ve lost my fact filter 🤦‍♀️

Yellowpolkadot · 17/04/2019 23:17

As a parent of a Niamh I was starting to get concerned that her name was clumped in as an alternative to the monstrosity that is heaven spelt backwards.

We met one at a baby group and the mum made some weird way of pronouncing it followed by ‘it’s heaven spelt backwards’ 🙄 please don’t do it

Angelf1sh · 17/04/2019 22:16

I don’t see what’s so difficult, you don’t like it so say no. Surely your DH isn’t such a dick that he’d register the baby behind your back with a name you’ve said you hate? Unless he is that big of a dick, you don’t need to worry because she won’t be called it. If he is that much of a dick then you have bigger problems than a name tbh.

tabbiemoo · 17/04/2019 18:50

Just an awful name. Please don’t let your daughter be called this. Your other choices are lovely.

Namechange8471 · 17/04/2019 18:15

Just call her hell?

Surely that's a backwards heaven?

YemenRoadYemen · 17/04/2019 18:04

What about Niamh instead?

@orangeicecream - you haven't read the thread, have you?

Tyler - your husband is coming across as a total dickhead. Is he normally so bullish and selfish?

Tylerjayde · 17/04/2019 12:04

HildaTablet The reason we aren’t using is because of DH’s family member being called it. We have 3 Ellie’s just in his close family and that gets very confusing. So I don’t want that to happen again and we have family events a lot because it’s a very close family and I’m not into nicknames so I wouldn’t be able to shorten it to anything so she knows it her.

They pronounce it Nev-ay-uh because:

  • it doesn't actually work backwards
  • they might have issues with thinking and stuff
orangeicecream · 17/04/2019 11:13

What about Niamh instead?

museumum · 17/04/2019 11:06

I’ve never heard this name before but how do people say it if it’s not nev-a-ay?

May e urs my accent but I find nev-a-ay really awkward to say.

SileneOliveira · 17/04/2019 09:04

OP, you have FAR better taste in names than your husband.

HildaTablet · 17/04/2019 08:30

I honestly don't get it when people say 'oh, we couldn't possibly use that name because Dh's second cousin's sister-in-law's called that and everyone would be so confused when we have family parties' (OK, I'm exaggerating slightly).

Just use the damn name FFS, nobody will give a tit's fart.

But not Nevaeh. Nevaeh is bloody awful.

HopeOverAnythingElse · 17/04/2019 08:16

You'll need to be equally as adamant then.

Seriously, you have to protect your daughter from carrying this shitebag of a name around her whole life! I feel for you OP.

ItsAHardKn0ckLife1 · 17/04/2019 04:56

Honestly, I look at it and think “I’ll have another consonant please Carol”

DH really must acknowledge that you dislike it. Be forceful OP!

Topseyt · 17/04/2019 02:20

I would tell him eventually that you are already sick of the name and dislike it so much that you will simply refuse to even acknowledge it, let alone use it for your child.

I wouldn't mince words about how dreadful I found it.

NewYoiker · 17/04/2019 01:53

Can't say I like it myself but that's because it's really really popular here and I met a lot in my other job and conversation would literally go like this.

Me- can you confirm your child's name and dob?
Them- Nevaeh.. it's heaven backwards....

Me inwardly- yes I know I've met 6 today all ready

Tylerjayde · 17/04/2019 01:39

Hi, sorry for such a late reply. DH is still adamant on picking this baby’s name and he still wants Nevaeh. I’ve honestly never been so sick of hearing a name. I don’t want my daughter to be called it (if we have another girl), I’m in love with Maya, Penelope, Imogen and Ava. DH is going to Scotland to work for a week in the morning so we won’t be able to decide on another name until he is back.

Chavvy as hell. Cringeworthy

user14869556378 · 16/04/2019 11:47

Nora?
Ava?
Vaeda?
Nova?

Anything but Nevaeh

Bunnylady53 · 16/04/2019 10:13

I wouldn’t know how to pronounce it

HopeOverAnythingElse · 16/04/2019 10:07

How would it be Nevaya though?

It would be Nev-a-ay but nobody says it that way because it's obviously preposterous.
