If you loved a name BUT you knew someone who had a puppy the same name?

I have been in love with the name Ivy for a wee girl for yearrrrs

Due in 11 weeks and ivy has always been the front runner.

One of my friends has recently got a puppy and sods law named her ivy.

Would it out you off naming your baby if someone had a dog named it too?

It would put me off, but I know it shouldn't given all the reasons pps have mentioned!! With no disrespect to the dog, it won't live as long as your daughter and so you should definitely go for it.
What would put me off is that I know 3 Ivys under 2!!

My aunt had a cat with the name we ended up choosing for our second son. Didn't put me off.

Sessy19 · 17/04/2019 15:08

Maybe the puppy will get run over or something...

IM JOKING!!!!!!

I was actually named after our next door neighbour’s cat, neighbour used to call the name every night and so it was a familiar name. My mother had very severe PND after I was born so I guess she couldn’t cope with giving me a human name, but...well, I’m here and the cat is not! 😊

birdgal4848 · 15/04/2019 22:11

No way, because Ivy is a name for a human not really one for a pet. It’s a very pretty name.

Worlds0kayestmum · 15/04/2019 09:08

My mum has a dog named Bella. I still named my daughter Isobel because I love the name. Not the same but very similar

cocodash · 15/04/2019 09:06

Ivy is a lovely name. If people opt for human names for their pets it's bound to happen sometimes. I reckon all dogs should be called Rover Grin

DarlingLittleBabyName · 14/04/2019 10:50

Well I’m a bit biased as I have a DD Ivy but...its a great name and I get nothing but compliments on it! i really can’t imagine it on a puppy, either way if you love it then you should go for it!! x

ThanksItHasPockets · 14/04/2019 07:05

Oh yes, use it. Ivy is lovely. The dog won’t be around forever.

outnumbered4 · 14/04/2019 05:57

Love the name Ivy. One of my son's has the same name as my dad's dog Grin dog was named long before my son.

Ploppymoodypants · 14/04/2019 04:09

Yep it’s fine. I didn’t think I would ever have children so gave my dog my favourite ever name.
So when I was expecting DD I really wanted to use it for her as well. I didn’t in the end, as I did find another beautiful name, but I very almost did.
I now have a dog with a ‘timeless classic ‘ human name. And 2 x DD with more pet like names 😁

MercyBodle · 14/04/2019 04:03

Just do it - and have a laugh with your friend about how they share your favourite name.

GinZing · 14/04/2019 02:42

Go for it, or you’ll look back and wish you had.

Alternatives just in case..

Evie

Iveeeeeeeee Winteeeeeeers!
Everyone needs a bit of drag in their life!
Ivy is a lovely name

justilou1 · 14/04/2019 02:30

I have always loved the name Ivy. My husband not so much. He refused to let me call our daughters Ivy, so guess who is called Ivy? To be fair.... I did want to call the girls by that name first!!!!

Would it put you off....
IncrediblySadToo · 14/04/2019 02:25

You could always go for Ivyn

🤣

cocodash · 13/04/2019 18:32

@incrediblysad2 I did say that haha I was like ahh that's a name we've thought about for baby lol and she just kind of laughed it off thinking I was joking lol

I'm glad it wouldn't put you all off. It hasn't put me off much but was just thinking if it would be weird... Probably over thinking.

Im also team yellow so this could turn out to be totally irrelevant hahaha

No, both my dc have names that have also been given to animals, it just shows the owners have as much good taste as I do Wink

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2019 18:22

No, it wouldn't put me off.

stellarfox · 13/04/2019 18:21

No I love Ivy! My friend has dogs called Ivy and Monty and I actually really like them both :)

ImHastingsDarling · 13/04/2019 18:20

My friend is named Jess and her dad got a sheepdog and named it... you guessed it... Jess.

Ivy is a lovely name!

BelulahBlanca · 13/04/2019 18:14

I know someone who’s DM had had a dog called Ivy for years and she still called her little girl Ivy.

Sculpin · 13/04/2019 18:13

Ivy is lovely - I'd use it.

Crunchymum · 13/04/2019 18:10

We considered our own cats name for DC1.

Cat has a human name, we tossed it about a bit (I may have even posted on here??)

In the end we had a DS (cat is a girl)..... found other names we preferred bybthe time we had our DD's

Use the name!!
