Help me name my son

ReginaGeorgeous · 13/04/2019 10:33

Due a baby boy next week and need some help and inspiration please.

Surname is Lewis, so that rules out names like Lucas, Louis etc.

Can't use Alex, Ross, Thomas, Joshua or Jack. I'd like James as a middle name as this was my late father's middle name.

I'll list current names we're toying with below, and our reservations about each. Validating or alleviating our concerns would be helpful!

Aidan - I am half Irish and to me this is a perfectly nice, normal name. However, DH thinks it will be perceived in the same way as Brayden, Jayden, Kayden etc.

Rory - is it a name that will suit an adult? Also Rory the tiger and Roary the racing car immediately come to mind.

Max - I like it, DH thinks its a dog name.

William - DH likes, I don't mind it, but if shortened to Will, it doesn't go with surname?

Help please!

Rory is nice. How about Oran?

ReginaGeorgeous · 15/04/2019 12:22

@MikeUniformMike, no I definitely couldn't name him Liam Lewis Grin

Hasn't thought about Will Lewis sounding like a question, I think that's William vetoed. Knew you lot would have some good ideas!

Quite like Conor and Cillian from the suggestions, thank you.

Joseph
Patrick/paddy

GreigLaidlawsbarofsoap · 14/04/2019 13:50

Rory is my fav from that list.

kamikazeshady · 14/04/2019 13:43

My sons father is half Irish and we considered the name Cillian. (Would be pronounced like Killian) either spellings are pretty cool.

Marlena1 · 14/04/2019 13:42

Liam is Irish for William. Also Oran/Finn

Alyx80 · 14/04/2019 13:40

Rory James Lewis is great, much nicer than the other options Smile

MikeUniformMike · 14/04/2019 13:38

Don't call him Liam Lewis please.

bridgetreilly · 14/04/2019 09:05

William nn Liam could work?

But I like all your options, and they are all perfectly normal and suitable for adults as well as children. Rory might be my favourite of the list.

Futureisland · 14/04/2019 08:16

Of the names you listed I like Aiden or Rory best. Aidan James.....AJ Lewis.

Other names that might work: Oscar, Reuban, Nathan

polkadotpixie · 14/04/2019 08:08

I have a Max so I'm biased but I think Max James Lewis is great. I do also like Aiden but I'm not overly keen on Rory. William is okay

Tavannach · 14/04/2019 04:07

I like Aidan and Rory - think Aidan goes better with your surname.
William is good for Bill or Billy.

yikesanotherbooboo · 14/04/2019 00:17

Aidan isn't my personal favourite but is a solid sort of name and not on the Jayden family imo.
I know Rorys of all ages and I like it .
Max is ok but I tend to agree with your DH re the dog thing ( silly)
William is a nice name with options for short versions. I like Bill for example .

Silvanna · 14/04/2019 00:08

Ryan James Lewis
Matthew James Lewis

BlueMerchant · 13/04/2019 21:05

Aidan James Lewis is my favourite. I like Max but don't think it flows with James.

Clownfish123 · 13/04/2019 20:59

I have a Rory. I love it and I think it works well on all ages. It's such a friendly name.

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2019 18:28

Aidan is traditional, not the same type of name as Jayden, Kayden etc at all. I really like it.

Rory is gorgeous, it works for all ages & goes great with your surname. That's the one I'd choose.

Max is OK, just everywhere these days.

William would be the 'safe' choice.

BikeRunSki · 13/04/2019 16:11

Aidan is a very well established traditional name. I don’t associate it with Kayden etc at all.

BentBaastard · 13/04/2019 16:05

Max is a fabulous name.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 13/04/2019 16:03

Ruarai is fab.

Not that keen on Aidan sorry.
Love Max.
Don't like William much. The Irish version Liam is nicer IMO.

How about:

Conor
Liam
Albie
Cillian
Fergus
Finbar
Fintan
Lorcan

Ploppymoodypants · 13/04/2019 15:53

Rory and Rhuarri are pretty well used around here. I know at least a handful of each. Lovely name though.

Aiden would be classed with the Jayden’s and Kaydens here. (That might say more about our area than the name though) I know a few but none younger than 15. So might date.

William is a really nice, lovely timeless, classless, classic name.

Max is nice too. Know lots of dogs and horses called max. But a number of adults and children. Also timeless.

pilates · 13/04/2019 15:43

Rory

Barbarafromblackpool · 13/04/2019 15:01

Rory.

ReginaPhalange89 · 13/04/2019 14:54

I really dislike all the Hayden/Jayden/Kaiden names , but I don't view Aiden as the same ? I'm not sure why. I think it's a nice name .

I like Rory. I've never met an adult Rory now that you mention it. But Rory isn't that uncommon nowadays so it wont seem weird when your baby is grown up, there'll be loads of adult Rory's! Ruairidh is really nice too but you might not like it if you're not Scottish .

Max is the only boy name we've both liked so far for our baby boy. My aunt has a dog called max 🙈 I'm trying not to let it put me off though. It's definitely more of a human name than a dog name

I'm not overly keen on William but love it shortened to Liam or will! Would you consider Liam as a shortening ? Liam James Lewis sounds better than Will James Lewis

Icklepup · 13/04/2019 14:36

Magnus James Lewis
