IMO, Betsy is the kind of name you'd call a cow or a beat-up old car

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2019 23:57

Emily & Lucy are not diminutives of longer names, whereas Betsy is derived from Elizabeth.

Betsy is OK for a toddler.

Silvanna · 13/04/2019 23:51

Betsy
or Elsie instead of Ellie

twattymctwatterson · 13/04/2019 21:31

Op Betsy is lovely but can you imagine a doctor or a lawyer or a prime minister called Betsy? It's a cute name for a child but it's not a grown up name.

ahtellthee · 13/04/2019 21:00

Betsy

Ribbonsonabox · 13/04/2019 15:09

They do both sound like nicknames though because they have been used for hundreds of years as shortening of names in constant uses.
Might be a better idea to just pick an actual short name that is used as a stand alone name otherwise you will always get people assuming she is called Elizabeth or Eleanor.
Emily and Lucy are commonly used as stand alone names even though they can also be longer names..
Betsy and Ellie just arent really.
Itd be like naming your child Cathie then being annoyed everyone assumed she was called Catherine. People just will assume that.

BlueMerchant · 13/04/2019 15:07

Betsy- love it
Ellie is 'common'.

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/04/2019 15:06

Betsy but use Elizabeth, your aren’t naming a doll, what your prefer is not the priority.

Strawberryjam16 · 13/04/2019 15:04

I don’t see Betsy being any different to Emily , Lucy etc of which I know many who are in good jobs

I prefer Ellie and it is very popular (but if that doesn't bother you then go for it).
What about Elsie as an alternative.

Heratnumber7 · 13/04/2019 14:47

If you call her Elizabeth you can shorten to either Ellie or Betsy. Or there are many other short forms she can choose from as she gets older.

missmouse101 · 13/04/2019 14:47

Not keen on either. Betsy is the least bad (sorry Blush)

Strawberryjam16 · 13/04/2019 14:44

I just think why put a name on the BC that you never intend to use and once they are hired for a job they all call you the shorter name anyway! Betsy is what I prefer

Bumblebeesmum · 11/04/2019 11:22

Betsy is lovely but I don’t think I’d want to not have a full name for applying for jobs etc. Have you considered other names like Beatrice etc ?

DarlingLittleBabyName · 09/04/2019 11:36

Betsy! i know a little one and it is darling on her!! Ellie is so common and boring nowadays x

mummymonica · 09/04/2019 10:57

Betsy 😍

e22aed247a · 09/04/2019 10:57

Ellie is much nicer imo

Marlena1 · 09/04/2019 07:52

I think Ellie is much nicer (probably why more popular). Tess?

Strawberryjam16 · 09/04/2019 07:45

I think Betsy is fine as a name and grows with a child. I do find this site quite funny when you give two names which are fine as names alone yet people always have to lengthen them

breadzeb · 09/04/2019 00:37

Betsy might be cute but when she is 14/24/34 etc the last thing she is going to want to be seen as is 'cute'

I like Ellie, although it is a bit over popular

MercyBodle · 09/04/2019 00:35

Betsy.

Though I also would prefer something else with pet form Betsy - Elizabeth, Beatrice, Beatrix, Lisbeth, Elspeth etc.

GreenTulips · 08/04/2019 22:18

I prefer Bess.

Ellie is now yawn

SprogletsMum · 08/04/2019 22:16

Betsy is what I wanted to call my dd but dp wouldn't let me. She even looks like a Betsy.
Go for Betsy!

WoahThereMama · 08/04/2019 22:15

Ellie is very overused and bland so by default - Betsy.

Shelbybear · 08/04/2019 22:13

Ellie
