I agree - for a boy Augustus, August or Augustin would be better. The e at the ends makes it feminine and a bit much.

I don't like Son or Sonny.

I think Augustine is a bit much. And I think people may expect a girl too. August, Augustus, Augustin are better. Sonny is just terrible, though. So demeaning and belittling. Augustine is better than that.

I quite like Augustine, but I think if you’re in the UK, it will code as ‘Catholic with devout parents’. Which may or may not be a signal you’re happy with. Sonny could not be more different.

I've got a friend with an Augustine and think it's lovely! Very Catholic and traditional (as are they) but he goes by Gus most the time.

If you like Gus, Angus/Augustus could be slightly less out-there alternatives.

Sonny sounds more nicknamey to me. I don't dislike it but it is a very different style of name as PP have said.

Oh I don't think Sonny is chavvy, I think it's trendy/modern I just picture it belonging to a skater teen, with floppy hair (and a spliff). Whereas with Augustine, I picture the saint!

Personally if I absolutely had to pick one of those names I'd probably go with Sonny as Augustine is just too much.

Mate. This has pregancy horomones written all over it. Sonny is jolly and American but is going to get “Sonny Jim” all the time if in Britain. If in the US my thoughts are no good here.
Augustine is a medieval boy’s name but will have your son having questions for a while about whether its female or male if that matters to you (Augustin is a more recently used french boys name and could neuter (sorry linguist joke) that a bit). But they are really different in terms of sound etymology religious reference and aspiration. Not that that matters, but is definitely an unusual pairing- like saying “shall I eat Ortolans or grits for breakfast”. I would love to see the rest of your list!

I so love Sonny I'm surprised it's seen as inferior to Augustine!
I always thought it was individual and a bit boho. I am shocked it's seen as chavvy ShmooShock

I'd say they're at opposite ends of a spectrum op. I'd go Augustus if that's an option. Augustine is very Roman emperor.
