Baby name opinion and advice

Hello,

Name changed as thought posting my exact baby name is pretty outing!

We have decided to go with Genevieve if baby is a girl because we adore this name! There are two family names we want to include as middle names - Iris and Roma (both names of beloved grandmothers, both equally as important to us! Want to use both now because we aren't sure if we will ever have another baby girl and would be gutted if we didn't get to use one!)

So how does Genevieve Iris Roma (surname) sound? I know it's a bit long but we don't mind the length, more interested in the sound?

Also, we are really struggling with boy names! (Fingers crossed it's a girl!!) DS is Reuben and we love this name but can't find anything else we love as much.

I like Jude and Jonah but can't use them (and don't like any similar names like Jonas or Judah). I like Seth but is it a bit blah? Quite like Wilfred but it's always getting called wet on here. I like Louis but don't LOVE it. Love Casper/Jasper but can't use (have a close family member with one of these names). Elijah is quite cool, and I love the sound of Oscar but know 10000 of them already. I suppose my naming style is vintage or biblical. Please help with suggestions!

Thank you xxx

I like the girls name, sounds fine with both middle names !

I do like Seth for a boy. Not too common but not unusual !

What about Cohen? Spring to mind when I read the list of boys names you mentioned

EleanorOalike · 08/04/2019 07:20

I thought that it’s Javier that was pronounced ha-vee-ay and I’ve only heard Xavier pronounced Ex—ay-vier like the Catholic saint. That’s how I’d be pronouncing it.

Glad we all helped a bit!

Icantthinkofasinglenamehelp · 08/04/2019 03:20

Oohh also wanted to add, I love all the R names mentioned (Rafe, Roman and Rowan were all on the list for my first son!) but would they be too matchy with Reuben?

Wow - so many great suggestions! I actually love Asher but my husband is Indian and Asha is a very common girls name in India, so he doesn't want to use that 😭 Such a shame as it's really cool! He also doesn't like Caspian which I love!! So disappointed about these two!

Caleb, Gabe (Gabriel), Jesse and Otis are going on the list - I also really like Sebastian and Oscar but do you think these are a little popular?

Xavier is really cool but I only like it pronounced the British/American way - I know a lot of Mumsnetters prefer the Spanish pronunciation from reading other threads, but I think I'd feel silly calling out "Ha-vee-ay!!" across the playground. (I'm currently living abroad but when I return to the UK it's really not to the kind of area where you could get away with that without a lot of eye-rolling). How do you feel about the British pronunciation?

And I'm so glad you all like the girls name! I feel so happy Smile

Have always loved the name Genevieve, and think Iris Roma sound great as middle names.

Was also going to suggest Marcus for a boy.

Elliot
Alexander
Gabriel
Elias
Ellis
Caleb
Nicholas

Love your girls names.

How about Gabe, Nate, Isaac or Noah.

Worth pointing out perhaps that Idris is pretty near to an anagram of Iris. ( Prefer Gabe though)!

nocluenoidea · 06/04/2019 22:39

If you think too long, how about Evie Iris Roma? I think it flows better but I don't think you need to worry anyway as you'll rarely say her full name out loud.

Love all your boy name suggestions! I wanted an Elijah but no boys for me.

bridgetreilly · 06/04/2019 12:29

Sebastian
Dominic
Joseph
Josiah
Matthias

You can't have Seth and Reuben. Not if they ever meet someone who's read Cold Comfort Farm.

Bluerussian · 06/04/2019 12:04

Nice names. I'm glad Iris has come back in fashion or, should I say, it's no longer 'old fashioned'. Such a pretty name and irises are beautiful flowers. So go for it! My preference would be to swap Iris and Roma but that's up to you. Both are lovely in whatever order.

Well done.

mondler · 06/04/2019 11:41

If it is helps I've recently met a baby Wilfred and an Elijah and both were adorable.

Looks like we have similar boys name taste. We also liked

Marcus
Zachary
Matthew
Dominic
Anthony
Rowan
Tobias

Good luck Smile

justilou1 · 06/04/2019 11:07

Love Roman!!!

EleanorOalike · 06/04/2019 10:17

Ooooh that’s a good point re Roma for a boy...how about Roman as a name?

IVflytrap · 06/04/2019 08:58

Genevieve Iris Roma sounds striking and beautiful. Smile

For boys:

Joseph
Eric
Elias
Eli
Ezra
Benedict
Milo
Bram
Cassian
Aaron
Austin
Julian
Isaiah
Francis
Solomon
Silas
Xavier

I like Seth. Wilfred is fine. Would never say it's "wet" (wet is a silly description for a name, anyway). I'm personally not keen on the nickname Wilf, as it sounds like a yappy dog, but fine with Will or Fred. Grin

justilou1 · 06/04/2019 08:01

LOVE the girl names very, very much!
How about Oskar,
Artur
Walter
Max

Tiramisu1 · 06/04/2019 07:45

The two middle names sound fine with Geneviève. Lovely name.

For s boy how about
Quentin
Tobias
Marcus

veeboo · 06/04/2019 07:21

This might be a bit out there but could you use Roma as a middle name for a boy? I think it works fine and would sound lovely with some of your suggestions.

Lorna2019 · 06/04/2019 06:56

Love the girls name 😍

I find boys name really hard, I like names like:
Walter
Stan/Stanley
Arthur
Ernie/Ernest
Otis
Ted
Norman
Frank
Fred/Freddie
Ambrose
Len

Basically I like old man names.

BasiliskStare · 06/04/2019 06:37

Oh I said I would stop but@EleanorOalike - I like Joel or maybe Jolyon & Arthur.

flumpybear · 06/04/2019 06:14

Both my children have two middle names. All names including surname have three syllables each, except James, my son's first middle name
Don't care it it's a bit much never really thought about it 😎
Go with what you like, Genevieve is a beautiful name

EleanorOalike · 06/04/2019 06:14

The girl name is fine, can’t see any problems with it.

You say you love but can’t use Casper or Jasper. How about Caspian? Other names that might be suitable; Tobias, Gracian, Tristan, Jedidiah, Samuel, Asher, Saul, Arthur, Grant, Lance, Joel.

Petalflowers · 06/04/2019 06:11

Jim - greatminds think alike!, especially at this early hour ( why can’t we sleep!)

BasiliskStare · 06/04/2019 06:03

Ralph? ( Rafe)

I'll stop now and wish you all the best for very healthy new baby

BasiliskStare · 06/04/2019 06:01

Rufus?
