It's actually okay if you spell it Zadie, like the author. Zadee just looks made up

The Zadie I know pronounces it as Sadie.

I do think it’s slightly silly using it just because it happened to be a name of an ancestor (they could be anyone!) but if you really love it then fair enough! I just don’t think it’s should matter more because of that iyswim

I quite like it though I prefer the Zadie spelling, maybe because it's more recognisable from the author.

So what? This is the reality for lots of us non Britain’s, with traditional names, living in Britain. It’s not the end of the world and, in my experience, most people are interested and happy to learn. It’ a lovely name and if it’s an historical name and spelling, go for it! Smile

Agree Zadie is a nicer spelling, but if it's a family name maybe that's not an option for you. I don't think you need to worry about Zadie/Sadie. There are lots of Sara and Zara's out there I'm sure people can work out a 'Z' sound from an 'S'

Okay that’s definitely a no! Thanks for the input. Was a name way back in the family so wondering what people thought of it today. For a girl, pronounced Zay-dee with emphasis on the first syllable.

Or the ee. I think Zadie works better as has the authors name as a reference in some people’s minds (or Pandora Sykes’ daughter)

Makes me think of the writer Zadie Smith. I think it's a lovely name but I'd be more inclined to spell it Zadie rather than Zaidee.
