Hi quick post. Me and dh have chosen the name colton for our ds due in september but none of our family likes it.

Thoughts on it would be welcome?

Really do not want to change as it is the only name we agree on and we have ordered cot bedding etc with name on.

Your family will be fine with the name once they meet him. They'll love him and his name is part of him. However, if they are generally critical it was probably daft to tell them in advance. Also, ordering personalised bedding? You could change your mind before September.

I think some accents will mangle it and that Carlton would travel better, so I do see why some might not be overly keen, BUT it's not their choice, or our choice, it's your choice alone.

Sexnotgender · 01/04/2019 14:27

I wouldn’t choose it but it’s your baby.

My boys name probably isn’t to everyone’s taste but I love it.

Tiramisu1 · 01/04/2019 14:26

It's a good solid name that's easy to spell and pronounce. Most importantly you love it. Stick with it! Good luck.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 01/04/2019 14:25

It's not a lovely name at all but if that's what you want then have it.

No name is 100% loved by all. You'll find someone that hates every name.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 01/04/2019 14:25

Don’t like it myself but it’s not my baby. I think you are very silly ordering customised stuff before baby is here, but again - not my baby.

If you’re going with it, why are you asking a bunch of internet randoms about it?!

AssassinatedBeauty · 01/04/2019 14:24

Don't change your mind if you both like it and are happy to go with it. It doesn't matter what your family think. If you're naming a child again in the future don't tell them until the baby has arrived.

MissBPotter · 01/04/2019 14:23

Never heard of it. Sounds like a surname to me, but not a common one. I did actually see cotton when I first looked at it. It’s not a name I like, but I prefer more traditional names so I’m probably way off your taste.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 01/04/2019 14:22

well - I think you're very daft ordering stuff with the name on a) because sex scans have been known to be wrong and b) because he might pop out and you look at him and think 'no, he's not a Colton, he's a [insert other name on your list]'.

You are also daft telling people the name beforehand!

Having said that. it's an alright name. Don't hate it, don't really like it.

daisypond · 01/04/2019 14:21

If you really don't want to change it, then don't! it's not my style of name, though.

pansydansy · 01/04/2019 14:19

It's a lovely name. Please don't listen to family, I did and deeply regret not going with the name we chose.
