Victoria?

Opinions on Victoria? Too old fashioned? I didn't used to like it but it's growing on me. Is too long a name (too many syllables) for a baby? Do you know many? I don't know any Victoria's younger than 27?!

It is DD2's middle name.

Love it, that said I loathe Vic/Vicky, but Tori is a lovely nickname.

@Sybelline if you're referring to my comment... My colleague told me he was thinking of Victoria and I politely said "hmmm yeah maybe, I'd keep thinking though as it's a bit old school".. He knew I liked more unusual names and knew I was very blunt. I was also pregnant at the time.

Anyway when Victoria was born I said "Ahhh how lovely!"

Young lad at my work called his daughter Victoria last year. Hate it. Tried to talk him out of it haha!

The last Victoria I knew, went by Vix. I don’t know anyone younger than 30 with the name though, so maybe it’s due a revival?

I know a 20 year old Victoria. That’s the youngest Victoria I know though. She is actually known as Plum to close friends and family though, sounds strange but it actually really suits her, can’t imagine calling her by her ‘real’ name now. That nickname might interest you?

Don't shorten it at all. Victoria is beautiful and easy to say.

I think Victoria is gorgeous. Rather than Vicky you could go with Ria or Via (Vee-a) as shortenings.

Lovely classic name. The 2 I know go by the respective nicknames of Toira and Ibby. (I have no idea why Ibby?! )
I quite like Tori as a NN

Liked it for my DD but decided I wouldn’t be able to stand Vicky/Tori/Vic etc so used it as a middle name instead

I've got a Victoria (teenaged); I think she's come across occasional others at school over the years. She's always been Victoria at home and mostly at school I think, though gets Vicky / V a bit from friends. I steered clear of Tory (too many run-ins with a nasty one in primary school!). I'm still happy with it, her brother has a multi-syllable name, mostly unshortened, too.

She herself has mostly been fine with her name. When she was 12-13 she was a bit unhappy with it and - as she was due to change schools - I sat down one summer and said, actually, if you want to be known as something else at your new school it's perfectly possible to do so. The "hard" sounds seemed to be at the root of the problem - but actually she couldn't find a name she wanted to be known as so that was that. We also have a surname that you have to be a bit careful with, particularly with regards to initials.

This is my forename and I love it!! If it helps I've never been called Vicky, Vic, tori etc always been known as Victoria. x

I don't really like it, but it is your baby OP! but something I have learnt is that if you used to not like a name and then it 'grows' on you, maybe you don't really love it and won't love it forever, like maybe you're just having a 'fling' with a name (if that makes sense)?! I would go for something you've loved forever, much more guaranteed you'll still love the name years from now x

I don't like it just because I hate the shortening "Vicky" and I think that's inevitably what most people will shorten it to

I had several really pretty girls' names sorted out for our baby. All had 3 syllables and were older more traditional names.

I had a boy!!!

We only had one name sorted for a boy - Christopher.
He is Christopher George [George after my late lovely Dad].
