Boys name- Arley?

What do you think about this name?
I really like it... I keep thinking no, it sounds like someone dropping the ‘H’of Harley.... or I’m naming after Muhammed Ali and that it sounds like Arlene.

These things put me off briefly but then I like the name again and keep going back to it.

What are your opinions on it? I like the sound of the old names that are making a comeback like Arthur, Albie etc but they are all too overdone so I wouldn’t use them... I found Arley on an old names list and loved it.

Yes sounds like Harley without the H.
Really dislike it.
Arlo?

HeyYouWithTheSadFace · 23/09/2023 22:44

Arden?

user1492757084 · 23/09/2023 11:15

Arley is sweet. I like the hare's meadow meaning.
It is a variation of Harley but that's okay.

peaceinourtime · 23/09/2023 08:59

Nice, different I would suggest just use Ali which of course is the pronunciation for Al-i. Ari is also something else to consider.

ArleyW · 23/09/2023 00:33

my name is Arley and I love It because its so unique

Palavah · 26/02/2020 09:00

Are you trying to avoid a Spanish first name? If not, something like Alejo?

123Dancewithme · 25/02/2020 22:31

I know one who spells it Arlie.

Strongmummy · 25/02/2020 20:16

Arlo is nice

DoctorBambino · 25/02/2020 20:14

I like Arley

sawyersfishbiscuits · 25/02/2020 17:53

Haha @Cakefat what a creep!

Cakefat · 25/02/2020 17:19

Yes, that's where he's named after it. I used to go with my nan as a kid and I've got lovely memories. But it's not where he was conceived (I was asked by creepy bloke at garden centre soft play when he wrote the name on the wrist bandAngry) blurghhhh

sawyersfishbiscuits · 25/02/2020 16:31

I really quite like it. I don't like Carley/Marley/Harley etc...

I've also been to Arley in Worcestershire, it has a lovely old railway station and steam trains.

Ari is also quite nice (pronounced ARR-EE)

Nowayorhighway · 25/02/2020 16:08

Sounds like Harley in a Northern accent.

Cakefat · 25/02/2020 10:08

My son's name is Arley- so clearly I'm a fan. He was named after the village my nan grew up in. If he'd been a girl I'd have called him after my nan. I'm not worried about the people who feel emboldened to say how much they don't like it, who knows? I may not like their choices either Wink

gingajewel · 28/03/2019 21:56

I no an arley, I think it’s a lovely name!

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 28/03/2019 20:04

Really does sound like someone from South East London/North Kent saying Harley. Not good, sorry.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 28/03/2019 20:02

I'll be shot down but I like the A name Ace for a boy Blush

lablablab · 28/03/2019 19:55

My neighbours have a dgs called Harley and they shout 'Arley down the garden at him so it's a no from me... 😬

I second Arlo.

Or Aiden, Aubrey or Austin?

Hillaria · 28/03/2019 19:50

What about Algernon, if you like 'A' names?

BlueMerchant · 28/03/2019 19:50

I don't like it at all sorry.

Hillaria · 28/03/2019 19:50

Pregnancy accounts for a lot, OP. I was going to call one of my DC Emmanuel Beau Boodle while I was pg. I was glad that XH didn't let me, once the pregnancy hormones had subsided. Arley is definitely a pregnancy choice. Let it go.

TulaWula · 28/03/2019 19:46

@SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc I didn’t think I did but this pregnancy I have liked an awful lot of them , has been lots of other names and letters but

Auden
Alvie
Archer
Arley
Audley

Have all been on my list as possibilities at one point or another so no idea where my ‘a’ obsession has arisen from... maybe hormones... or laziness... unsure which lol

@Jellycat1 Arlo feels like the name of the moment for me though... although I like it ... I know Arley is very similar but evidently not anywhere near as popular judging from the reactions 😂

@WanderingAimlessy I like Arlen too but it rhymes with my DS name so I think people will think I have a name theme

Do you like A names particularly?

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/03/2019 18:59

Btw Alfie, Albie, Archie, Arthur have peaked and gone. (I teach pre school.)
