Hi all,

So my partner and I have these names as our top 5, but are struggling to pick one. In my heart I don’t think we can use Maggie because of Thatcher connotations but I do like it a lot. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas of anything with a similar vibe?

If you love Maggie use it. The Thatcher connotation will be completely lost on their generation.

Love Maggie or Marnie. I think thatcher was long enough ago to resurrect Maggie fab name be so cute on a toddler but works in adulthood too

3ChangingForNow · 26/03/2019 15:14

Marnie and Hazel GORGEOUS

Icklepup · 25/03/2019 13:06

Love Marnie

Netflixaddiction · 25/03/2019 10:06

Sorry I don’t like any of them.

I guess if I was forced to pick then I’d pick Hazel.

mrsdavys · 25/03/2019 09:15

I love Martha, Hazel and Maggie only if it’s short for Margaret.
Marnie is horrid- reminds me of that Geordie Shore woman and that’s enough to put anyone off.

MercyBodle · 25/03/2019 07:13

Maggie is the only one on your list that I like. I don't think people will make the connection to Thatcher much - there are plenty of Maggies around and it will just become your baby's name.

Shadow1234 · 24/03/2019 19:02

Marnie is lovely. Not keen on others.

MillicentMartha · 24/03/2019 01:21

Don’t worry about the Thatcher thing. People who know your DD will soon think of herwhen they hear Maggie, rather than Mrs T.

Although my auntie Margaret (born in 1929) was always known as Marnie, so could be an alternative nickname?

lilabet2 · 24/03/2019 01:13

I like Callie and if Marnie is short for Hermione then I like Marnie.

I don't like Maggie- for the Margaret Thatcher connotations, nor Hazel or Martha.

Bumblebeesmum · 24/03/2019 01:04

I love your list with the exception of Thatcher

I think Martha is my favourite

DramaAlpaca · 23/03/2019 14:53

I like Marnie, Callie & Hazel very much.

To me Maggie is very harsh & Martha is dreary.

mummyzombie · 23/03/2019 14:29

I like Maggie and don't immediately think of Thatcher at all.

But other similar names...

Meryl
Maisie
Martha
Marnie
Magda

SweetbutaPsycho · 23/03/2019 14:21

I agree with pp that Margaret is a common name so doubt the Thatcher connotation will immediately spring to mind. Although if you are totally against it how about Margot, Merida, Marnie, Marie or Mhairi instead?

slipperywhensparticus · 23/03/2019 13:28

I love hazel!

Lightheart · 23/03/2019 13:27

Marnie and Maggie are my favourites!

boomboom1234 · 23/03/2019 13:11

Callie

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 23/03/2019 13:02

Callie and Hazel would be my favourites. Marnie is nice too.

Not keen on Maggie or Martha.

How about Cassie? Or Margot is becoming popular and is similar to the names you put?

aliceandkids77 · 23/03/2019 11:28

ooh I love the name Hazel!! all the others are lovely as well though, as soon as I saw this I thought of Elsie for some reason? I think you may like Elsie xx

EmmaJR1 · 23/03/2019 10:50

My niece is Callie so obviously that one! However I like Martha and Maggie too.

Starsandthemoonx · 23/03/2019 09:56

Callie is lovely not too keen on the rest!

Peachbubble · 23/03/2019 09:48

Callie

ASheepCalledPeppaPig · 23/03/2019 09:21

But Margaret is such a common name not just Thatcher! You can't use that as a reason not to use Maggie (thatcher didn't use Maggie I don't think, just the press/public to take her down a peg).

If it were me, I'd go with it and if anyone did say 'oh like Thatcher', I'd respond with 'no, like Simpson'. And move on not bothered.

Flamingosnbears · 23/03/2019 08:33

Marnie by miles and miles...

FranklinTheCat · 23/03/2019 08:30

Martha!
