What sort of person do you think of? Would you judge the name? What sort of assumptions would you make?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Love the name (I knew a Barnaby, he was a great quirky kid)

Joeybee · 23/03/2019 10:09

Straight off I think it's a bit pompous.
However if I look past that, I think it could be a really cute name on a little boy. It's a little bit grand, but also quite gentle. Not sure about Barney as a nickname though, I think of the dinosaur.

emilybrontescorsett · 23/03/2019 09:30

Barnaby the Bears my name!

My favourite kids tv programme ever.

cherriesandoranges · 22/03/2019 22:45

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/03/2019 22:41

I think bear.

TheSheepofWallSt · 22/03/2019 22:37

My friends lovely 5yo is Barnaby (barney) - I was a bit unsure when she announced it- but it’s really grown on me, and love it now.

Sophronia · 22/03/2019 22:34

I prefer Barnabas

ShabbyAbby · 22/03/2019 22:30

I would probably make a class assumption if I'm honest

azulmariposa · 22/03/2019 22:08

I like it. It's a "proper" name, and will suit all ages (unlike some of the fashionable names at the mo!)

soundsystem · 22/03/2019 22:07

Definitely a bit posh. Based on the ones I've met: calm, affable, polite, creative in a studious rather than zany way.

It's a name with positive connotations for me!

bellsbuss · 22/03/2019 22:07

Lovely name

Hippopotas · 22/03/2019 22:06

I can only think Midsomer Murders when I hear it.

Gorgeous.

Laquila · 22/03/2019 21:45

I love it and would have used it for one of my boys but my parents used to have a much-loved dog called Barney and we just thought it would have been a bit odd for them 😀

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 22/03/2019 21:42

I have a Barnaby (Barney) and he's not wet, or posh, and I'm definitely not pretentious or upper class. I got it from one of my favourite childhood books (though the boy in that was actually Barnabas, but our surname and his middle name begins with S so I thought it'd be too hissy.)

Obviously I think he's a lovely boy. I've met a couple of others who have also been perfectly nice normal kids.

MaOverall · 22/03/2019 21:41

Hope the surname doesn't start with a 'B'

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 22/03/2019 21:41

I love it. We had it on our list for boys names.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/03/2019 21:40

Loving the 'teat of time' 😂 Barney I quite like, but I agree that Barnaby is a bit wet (possibly entirely because of the irritating bear)
