I think its beautiful - but then again I went to Israel when I was 18 and met a Kobi. It is a israeli boys/mens name rather than "its not even a name". Just because you haven't heard of it before it doesn't mean its not a name.. (ffs).

My niece is a doctor and she has an African surname that no-one can (be bothered) to pronounce properly. She tells patients to call her by her first name.

I thought most DRs use surnames, so it really does not matter what the first name is.

Something very bad happened there and thousands lost their lives. So no, I wouldn't give a baby this name. Putting an i at the end doesn't make it ok.

There does seem to be a bit of this on the naming threads. A lot of names called “made up” or spelled incorrectly turn out to be from a different culture.

I know a few Kobis. It's a very traditional and common name from some parts of Africa.

Surely the fact that people can only imagine Dr Louisa and Dr Thomas and can't imagine Dr Jayden and Dr Ellie-May means that the Jayden's and Ellie-Mays need encouragement to be out there getting their PhDs and medical degrees.
It also means that a lot of people on here can't see past their back garden and turn their noses up at anything unfamiliar to them.You can see that by comments such as "it's a made up name'' ( aren't all names made up at some point!)
Names like everything else evolve with fashion, trends and times.
I'm nearly 54 and my nan was horrified at my name ( it was made up an apparently) now it is seen as being a bit old fashioned.
The next generation on from the one before like putting their stamp on things, as they should and stir things up.

On this topic people show their ignorance or snobbery.
One day names like Jaydon, kai and others that are popular will be seen as old man's names and a few decades later will have a revival like George, Arthur and others did!

I've said before I've only met to Kobi's. I quite liked it but the more I read this thread, the more I like it

Calling your kid Thomas over Jayden will make no difference to his educational outcomes but encouraging your Jayden will do. In 20 years let's hope Dr Jayden is just as common as Dr Thomas!

I love it but wasn't brave enough to use it myself. We're from a mixed race background and it would fit in just lovely. Don't think it goes down well with the Oliver/Oscar Mumsnet crowd

I don’t agree with the line of argument, can you imagine a Dr or Barrister being called that...it’s just rude and snobby.
However we all have different tastes and that’s ok, I wouldn’t pick a modern name like Kobi because I like more old fashioned names like James and Percy.
You open a can of worms when you ask for opionions, of course someone will say something you don’t want to hear.
