Alannah by miles

WrathOfGrapes · 17/03/2019 22:16

I prefer Grace.

How are you pronouncing Alana? I've only ever heard it Ah-lay-na which I don't like.
Also, yes, Alana Thompson is Honey Boo Boo.

aliceandkids77 · 17/03/2019 22:13

grace grace grace! I love it!!

Metalhead · 17/03/2019 18:32

Love Alana. Grace is very popular around here but personally I’m not keen.

Reaa · 17/03/2019 14:10

I like Alana

How about Leana

MollyHuaCha · 17/03/2019 14:08

Grace

BlueMerchant · 17/03/2019 13:58

Grace

Sakura7 · 17/03/2019 13:55

It's not a trashy US name, it originates from Ireland and is reasonably popular here.

RayaJambalaya · 17/03/2019 13:15

Definitely Alannah (don't like Alana)

Twiggywinkle13 · 17/03/2019 11:20

Another vote for Alana, the best name!

And I’m neither trashy or from the US Wink

The only thing that annoys me, depending on where you’re from is that I’ve learned on mumsnet that lots of people say Alana wrong. It should be pronounced ‘a-la-na’ For some very odd reason no one in a Scotland/Ireland has difficulty with that but some people in England seem to put and r in it Confused then it just sounds ugly!

Happyandglorious · 17/03/2019 11:16

Grace.
Alana is trashy US sounding to me

MIA12 · 17/03/2019 09:50

Grace is much nicer.

Enko · 17/03/2019 09:43

Another vote for Alana

Mollie85 · 17/03/2019 09:38

Grace

daisypond · 17/03/2019 09:32

I much prefer Grace. It’s a lovely name and is much stronger as a first name than as a middle name where it is commonly used.

Sophronia · 17/03/2019 09:00

I would pronounce Alana and Alannah differently.

RuthW · 17/03/2019 08:39

Also I have a feeling that Alana Thompson was one of the Thompson Twins but not many would remember them.

Unfortunately my daughter has the exact name of a pop star who wasn't a pop star in 1997 when I had her.

RuthW · 17/03/2019 08:37

Alannah is lovely

MercyBodle · 17/03/2019 08:25

I much prefer Grace.

whitehalleve · 17/03/2019 08:10

Going against the grain I much prefer Grace. It's a classic name. I can't say the same for Alana. And yes it's honey boo boo Grin

Choosinganame · 17/03/2019 07:51

I really like Alana. It's on my list. I like that it has nickname potential with Lana, Lani and Allie. I find a Grace a bit boring personally.

MrsEricBana · 17/03/2019 04:22

Alannah Currie was one of the Thompson Twins. This may not be relevant Grin

Tavannach · 17/03/2019 03:58

Grace

Quintella · 17/03/2019 03:26

I think maybe Alana is the female version of Alan in the way that Philippa is the female version of Phillip.

But Alannah is the anglicised form of 'a leanbh', the Irish term of endearment from mother to child. It basically means 'my child'.

YesimstillwatchingNetflix · 17/03/2019 01:47

Grace is so much better
