Delilah?

You might get the song references once or twice and that's it.
If you love it, have it. I can assure you a majority of reactions are really positive, if you care what other peoples opinions on it are.
In the pharmacy collecting my daughters prescription one day, and they called her name out, a man stopped me and said "excuse me, is that her name? pointing at DD It's an absolutely beautiful name, I had to say something"
One person has said "oh like the Tom Jones song?" So positives outweighing negatives so far.

I have a friend called Cecilia. She gets 'Ceciiiiiiiiiiiiiilia yer breakin' my heart.........' on a surprisingly frequent basis.

The biblical connotations are horrible and it's certainly what would first occur to me.

And whilst I appreciate that the songs don't put you off OP they would definitely bother me.

I'd say it's a name that's being sung loudly in Cardiff tonight! Imagine being a real life Delilah in Wales on a big rugby day. You'd probably punch several drunken serenaders an hour. Justifiably.

The name itself is lovely with a nice cadence to it. It's just that pesky song...

I think it’s one of those names that is in fashion now but in a few years will be naff.

Love Delilah! It was between that & another name for dd2, the only reason she ended up with the other name is because she was emergency caesarean, so was handed to oh, when they asked him her name, he said he panicked a bit & said the other! (We both loved both names equally, so I was happy either way!)

Go for it, it's such a beautiful name! I love the plain white tees song, it was what made us fall in love with it, when we told people it was an option, everyone said how lovely it is, nobody (including v outspoken, v religious parents at ds school) mentioned the bible & only an old welsh friend said about Tom Jones!

My boy is called Jude and only a few times has Hey Jude been serenaded to him, or to me, in his first year on Earth. Go for it!

I'm Welsh and I love the name. There was a girl in Emmerdale called Delilah one of the Dingles. As for the song I have heard that a lot today with Wales winning the grand slam it's everywhere around here . But if you love the name and it suits her it's up to you. I myself think of Samson and Deliver lay before Tom Jones. Lisa Rinna of real housewives has a daughter that's a model that's called Delilah so perhaps it's popular in the U S A.

The point of my post was that I very much doubt anyone would be singing Tom Jones by the time your daughter is a teenager. And even if they are, it isn't as bad as it sounds. It tends to be older people who sing the songs and they can easily be ignored with an eye roll by teenagers.

I didn't think of any song until I started reading the thread (neither Tom Jones or plain white Ts). Rhiannon Ashlee (YouTuber) has a young daughter named Delilah and I have always thought it was lovely. I know a little girl named just Lilah as well.

I have a name with a formerly popular song attached to it. I'm in my 20s now and the name was very unusual when I was growing up, but it is becoming fairly popular with babies at the moment and no one seems to be singing the song anymore!

I like Delilah a lot, although it does make me sing the Tom Jones song in my head.

I guess that shows that all names have different connotations to different people. It is best if you are able to agree on one that both parents like. Any other options?

I have one. We get tonnes of compliments and someone mentions Tom Jones once in a blue moon. There is not a name on the planet I love more so I couldn’t care less if it’s not to everyone’s taste- that’s how you know a name is the one!

Aargh! The song is over fifty years old and we still know it! It is not going to suddenly disappear. It's a lovely name. Use it if you want, but some people will always remember the song. And when Jones the Voice does fimally slip the mortal coil, you will only hear the song more.

I think it's a beautiful name. Surely your daughters generation won't link it to the Tom Jones song and once your daughter is an adult most people arent still going to be associating it with Tom Jones.

I love it - the religious connotations and song wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. And who cares if someone snobby enough seems you ignorant for using it !!
