Are these names too marmite?

Trying to pick a girls name and here's the shortlist... I know a few of these some people either love or hate. I don't want to pick something too of the moment but I don't want something boring either... which would you pick? I have a son with a very classic name... Happy for other suggestions too.

Tulip and Blossom are definite not on for me, the rest are fine though Agnes is not very pretty, ,but it is a real name.

I love Astrid and Jemima and quite like Agnes. Not sure on the others. How about Clementine, Seren, Rosa, Bryony, Hazel, Jasmine, Fleur, Flora, Myrtle.

I really like flora @TOADally and @MBDBBB but it has been vetoed by DH on the basis that it's a margarine 🙄🙄🙄🙄

I think Jemima and Astrid are my front runners. But it is so hard! Maybe I will get a field of cows and name them all the leftover names 😬

I know a young Tulip. It's a lovely name.
I also like Jemima, Astrid & Celine.
How about Xanthe, Citrine or Bracken?

I love Jemima but know quite a few. There’s a lavender in my son’s class-I don’t love it but I don’t think she gets called Lav!

My daughter is called Flora!

I love Astrid. I am Dutch and it was a popular name when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s.

Thanks everyone actually, people have been far far nicer about the list than I thought. It's going to be soooo hard choosing just one. Maybe I'll go for 8 middle names WinkGrin

@Pemba & @HoHoHolyCow you're right and the nicknames you suggest for Eleanor are totally lovely. I just read so many MN threads where people are told that they can't control what their child's name gets shortened to!Confused

I like them all except for Celine, Blossom, Tulip and Lavender.

I love Helena too, and Audrey.

Celine makes me think of snail slime. Don't know why.
Little miss Lavender will definitely get the NN Lav.
My entire English class was once called a bunch of tulips by our teacher, in a moment of exasperation. I have used the phrase myself ever since.
Blossom makes me think of cakes to celebrate the start of your periods.

Lavender would be a mistake as she will be called Lav and Lavatory.

Blossom is very old fashioned but not in an old lady chic way.

All the others are acceptable, some people willl hate them but you get that with every name. Even the boring classics. People will hate them on account of being boring classics.

Agnes would have been completely dreadful 20 years ago but it’s funny how names gradually become acceptable once there are a few around. From your list like Jemima and Celine best.

Cleo - like it a lot
Jemima - a bit ‘cutesy’?
Astrid - really like this name.
Blossom - for an adult this seems childlike to my ear unless you are black in which case to my ‘white ear’ it makes much more sense for an adult woman - has more cultural familiarity - think this is a thought provoking response to the name hmm
Tulip - slightly similar response to blossom. Like this name.
Agnes - like it but do sometimes think it is ‘ugly’ but I rather like some ‘ugly’ names.
Lavender - just no
Celine - too many potential misspellings/missayings for me to immediately say yes I think.

For Eleanor you don't have to use Ellie, could be Nell, which is really nice.

I see you've decided against Blossom which is great as it sounds like a horse or a cow. Tulip is quite strange, I mean the flower is lovely but the sound of the word isn't. Lavender is really old lady, and could lead to the unfortunate nicknames 'Lav' and 'Lavvy'. Agnes is fairly old lady too, and sounds very harsh. It's that 'ag' sound, I also dislike Agatha and Morag for the same reason.

I do like your other choices though. Really like Jemima actually. Another unusual flower name you might consider is Fuchsia ? Or Clover, Marigold?
