Names you dislike/don't get?

Skylar. l just don't get it. lt sounds like a made up name.

I love boring 90s names (Leanne, Laura, Sarah etc) purely because most of them can’t be shortened naturally, and I don’t particularly like a lot of nicknames. Similarly people giving names while fully intending to call their child something completely different.

Eg Genevieve nn Ivy, just call your child Ivy ffs.

I also hate the try hard names, the threads on here that are like “looking for a sibling name that fits with siblings Tarquin, Allegra and Clementine Eugenia” make me laugh. What ever happened to James and Mary etc

I really dislike names like Bailey so chavvy

Neveah because why call your kid heaven backwards?
And Dulcie, because I can’t say it without thinking about Dulce du leche or however you spell it.

I don’t like Millie, Molly or Maisie, especially when they’re not a shortening of anything. I just find them very ‘wet’ sounding.

I’m not a fan of some of the very old fashioned boys names that are popular now either. Things like Reggie, Arthur, Archie etc

Everyone thinks their chosen kids names are amazing and/or unique.

Then you read yet another of these threads where your choisen names are shat all over. 🙄

Never think the name(s) you have carefully chosen are cooler/classical/ more considered than anyone else's as someone will be there to denounce it as 'chavvy', too popular/cutesy/old gimmer/ridiculous etc..

Nevaeh is just horrific.... it's heaven backwards, oh right that makes it better then!

Willow, Harlow etc - make me want to vomit

Jayden - I've known lots & every one has been a little twat

Millie, Maisie, Daisy etc

In fact there isn't a lot of names around at the minute that I can say I like at all... think I was possibly born into the wrong era

I have two DDs in primary, I hardly ever meet anyone with strong names.

I always think, (and hope) that my children will have a good job, it's hard to imagine a solicitor or a doctor called Teddy or Lexi, sorry.

@hogmother, in English, X does make that sound, when at the start of a word. Eg. Xylophone, xenophobe. Also see girls name Xanthe. It's correct.

In fact, I have a related bugbear, the name Xavier, pronounced ex-zavier instead of Spanish 'havier' or anglicised 'zavier'. Embarrassingly common in oz. .

I don't particularly dislike names, i just find them odd. Teddy has become highly popular, but I'm not sure it's a "lifetime" name. I cringe at the thought of sitting around a board table in five years time assessing Teddy's in a serious manner. Likewise, I really liked Romeo as a name, but didn't pick it for exactly the same reason as I don't like Teddy. DD2 has some very odd names in her year group. There's a Phoenix, Garrison, Boi (as in Boy), Axel and Jackson to make a few.

My DD1 has an incredibly popular now, DD2 you don't hear much of (although it hasn't appeared on this thread). I just think it's down to personal preference, I'm not offended if someone doesn't like my child's name.

My current issue is with xander. I get it’s short for Alexander, but it’s an x not a z, and without the first part of the name, it doesn’t make that sound. I’m sure someone will disagree with me, and that’s fine, it just doesn’t work for me.
