There are some names like Connie and Matilda.... Popular ones that I hate and just don't get.
Any names that are popular you just don't get?!

Willow. I can't understand why someone would name their child that, nor do I understand why people always fawn over the name when anyone else uses it.

Ruth is plain and sensible but that's not to say Ruths are plain and/or sensible.

All quite formidable and impressive Ruths. I'm not sure there's ever been a glamorous Ruth?

I remember a line from Friends where Ross suggests Ruth as a name for their baby and Rachel says something like 'No. We're not having a 90 year old' Grin

Ruth may not be an objectively 'nice' name but I know about 5 and they are all truly lovely women. I don't think unpleasant Ruths exist, so on that basis the name feels nice to me.

Ruth is the ugliest name. I'm so embarrassed when ppl find out my middle name.

Hate Ruth. Why would you call a child Ruth? What were my parents thinking l?

I also hate Jessica, Abigail, lily and Eleanor.

My dd is Florence which I see a lot of you hate!

I love the names Florence and Constance! Florence was a contender for my DD's name but I was worried it would end up as popular as Amelia or Grace so it became middle name. I still love it though. Another thing to blame David Cameron for 😂 (he has a Florence)

I’m not a fan of surnames as names - Cooper, Mason, Grayson, Jackson. Jackson in particular - why would you call your child “Jack’s son” (unless their dad was Jack I guess...).

Also dislike the trend of taking Irish surnames and using them as first names when you have zero connection to Ireland - have seen Murphy, Kennedy, Brady and Quinn crop up a lot.

My eldest has what is traditionally a last name as his first name. It's the surname version of DH's name which probably makes it even worse. But I like it so don't really care. Although a teacher remarked that his full name sounds like a solicitors firm. Grin

I can't stand the name Harrison. I don't know why. I just assume people wanted to their kid to have Harry as a nickname but didn't realise it was a nickname for Henry.

I also don't like names ending in son for girls. Or what I would class as 'nick names' or abbreviated names as the full name. So Freddie, Teddy, Bobby, Ollie etc.

I do think parents worry too much about giving their kids a unique name. The irony is we gave our youngest a more traditional name which was quite common when I was a child. He's definitely the only one with that name in his class at school.

I’m a very big fan of children having names that reflect their heritage. My brother and I were given first names that work in both cultures and two middle names - one for each grandmother/grandfather and therefore one for each culture.

It made me feel closer to the side I didn’t see much, and I’d give my children names that also work in both cultures.

My kid has a unique name and surname thanks to his European father. Its solid but commented on as being “cool”. It makes him stand out in a good way.
