Names you dislike/don't get?

There are some names like Connie and Matilda.... Popular ones that I hate and just don't get.
Any names that are popular you just don't get?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RainbowWaffles · 13/03/2019 17:57

Eg Genevieve nn Ivy, just call your child Ivy ffs

I hate this too. There are always suggestions like that on MN. I find it so pretentious. A child’s nn to me seems like something that should happen organically not planned well in advance of their birth.

Hyphenated and American names too, they just sound awful. Otherwise I don’t really mind, I am indifferent to many of the names on this thread. I don’t mind the traditionally ‘posher’ sounding names in principle but the more extreme names like Hugo just don’t sit right on children not from that background. It isn’t a criticism of class, I am in no way posh enough to call my child Hugo either.

Fiddle, I put a full stop after etc. I didn't mean neveah to be in the old fashioned category!

MistressDeeCee · 13/03/2019 17:08

Chelsea, Kylie, Michaela, Tyler, Bethany. I suppose I just don't like the sound.

& Nevaeh makes me want to scream

& super-bland men's names eg John, Kevin, Graham, Brian

Moroder · 13/03/2019 16:55

Brian. Especially if he’s married to a Barbara

NorthernRunner · 13/03/2019 16:36

Oh crickey no not my taste either

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 16:33

@NorthernRunner, Thomasina and Horatia. Not to my taste.

SemperIdem · 13/03/2019 16:32

Jack - so, so dull.

Anna - as above.

Both smack of “couldn’t be bothered to give it any thought”.

sushisuperstar · 13/03/2019 16:32

I hate Hannah. I don't know why, it just makes my teeth grind. And Kayleigh.

NorthernRunner · 13/03/2019 16:26

fiddle ooo I’m interested what are her sisters called (I’m well awareness I could probably google for myself) 🤷🏻‍♀️😆

BeGoodTanya · 13/03/2019 16:24

Siobhan and Bernadette. And lots of other Catholic Irish names. Hmm

Arlo around here (in the sticks, Middle England) isn't remotely hipster, it's bog-standard lower-middle class. Little Arlos have Louis and George and Amelia as older siblings.

cloudymelonade · 13/03/2019 15:53

@Mrssnowflake Brilliant! My stepsisters are called Sara and Nicola and their daughters are called Amelia and Olivia 😂😂😂

I hatr try hard hipster/pretentious names like Arlo , Bodhi and Emmeline

GinUnicorn · 13/03/2019 15:26

I equally hate Nigel. Yuk

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 15:25

Nigella is just awful. Nigella Lawson's sisters got equally awful 'wish you'd been a boy' names.

KateTTC123 · 13/03/2019 15:25

Hester

GinUnicorn · 13/03/2019 15:23

Nigella.

Utterly hate it.

BonBonVoyage · 13/03/2019 15:21

"spiky" names - Stella, Erica, Harriet, Agatha, Ethel

Hayden, Jayden, Cayden, Caelan (sp ?)

The boring Irish girls names of my generation - Aoife, Orla, Caoimhe, Ciara, Sinéad, Siobhán, Niamh so uninspired and yet seriously overused

And of my mother's generation - Mary, Patricia, Angela, Margaret. Why???

Ghostwriter90 · 13/03/2019 15:18

Matthew is a bit of a wet name.

OP posts:
FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 15:12

No, Matthew is a name I dislike actually. But my name has been mentioned on the thread. I'm fine with that though. Grin

Phew.

woodcutbirds · 13/03/2019 15:12

Siobhan and Bernadette. And lots of other Catholic Irish names. they just annoy me for no reason. I know some lovely Siobhans and I love the song Bernadette by Paul Simon but the names themseves are irritating.

Hamsternauts · 13/03/2019 15:09

Don't mention it. Is your name Matthew?

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 15:08

Thanks, chum! Smile Smile Smile Smile Smile

Hamsternauts · 13/03/2019 15:04

I don't like the sound. That's what this thread is about.

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 13/03/2019 15:02

Ah okay sorry, I must have speed read!

But what is so awful about Matthew rhyming with phew? Names ending in 'unt' I'd understand.
