Names you dislike/don't get?

Mine and my DH's names have been mentioned, but not our soon to be born DD yet!

Names I don't like: Kayden, Jayden, Kai, Riley, Archie, Alfie, Arthur, Jackson/Jaxon, Charlie, George, Edward

And all the girls names that seem to be really popular on MN- Romily, Ottilie, Matilda, Thea, Coralie, Luna, Clara

Gavin. When I was having DD1 this name was having a bit of a revival on pregnancy boards among Americans and I couldn't get over them calling their gorgeous newborns this (to me) dated, awful name.

Argh - Lexi, drives me nuts. I want to finish the word off - Lexicon.

Dawn, I've literally never met a nice Dawn.

Names that are a nickname. Like Archie, Alfie, Harry , Izzy etc

I dislike flower names on girls, Daisy, Poppy Lilly and most shortened ie/y boys names like Ronnie/Ronny, Reggie, Ollie, Freddie/ Freddy.

I had a neighbour called ruth as a child, and thought her name was “roof” for absolute years!

I can’t bear hyphenated names either. -Rae is the worst. Rae on its own is quite lovely but it’s ruined by being stuck onto Lola or Daisy or something.

Harley - makes me ache
Ava - normally a brat
Mia - same as Ava
Taylor/Tayla - why
Maise - sounds awful

I love most of the names universally binned on here!

Mine and 2/3 of my dc names have been slated too! And they're all so run of the mill and generally v socially acceptable ime

It's all so subjective isn't it, and I realise I have real dislike for names that remind me of people at school that were tricky to be around etc. I also don't like the way somethings look written down so dislike Evelyn as it reminds me of Marilyn etc.

I generally don't like v popular names as they become so bland through overuse, or really date someone as being from a particular generation. I really don't like names that are too cutesy, I don't like surname names and generally prefer names with a bit of history or meaning.

Fwiw, I love the name Ruth and it makes me think of someone warm and kind (it means compassion) and it manages to be feminine without fuss.

OMG some of these comments are harsh!!! 🤣 my 20m old son is called Bodhi. We aren’t pretentious or ‘wannabe hipsters’ in any shape or form, it’s a Buddhist name that has a beautiful meaning. We both follow Buddhism and genuinely love his name. I’ve got friends that have been scared to use certain names in fear of being judged and I think that’s really very sad.

Anyway, no go’s for me would be William, Oliver, Samuel, Jack etc. Love lots of girls names would probably have gone for Sunny or Rosie had he been a girl.

Anything cutesy that I can't picture on an adult. I know there are adults with these names, I just can't come to grips with it.

I've never understood the whole "we'll spell it wrong and call it unique" thing. All I see is a spelling mistake.

I had no idea my dc's names would be so disliked!
For me, drippy names like
Millie, Molly, Poppy, Floppy, Drippy...
And Tabitha

Any name that tells you what decade they were born.
Old people names.

Specifically Thomas - turns my stomach - but love Tom. Also William but love Will.

Really dislike Luna, Wren, Willow. Just don't like the way they sound.

Couple names that make me shudder is 'Pat and Angela'. Run away if you encounter a Pat with an Angela. Solo they may be okay!

Wow 193 comments and still none of my children's names are on here. Yet I see a lot of threads that eliminate one of my daughters names a lot so just waiting for it to pop up 🙈😂

Surnames for first names...just don't get it. Cooper, Harrison, Taylor and so on. Sounds really impersonal to me, sorry.

Made up names - saw someone on Jeremy Kyle call their child Shanica or something along those lines. Poor kid has to live with that bullshit just because you wanted to be different

HighestMountains I think it means woman in Italian, I didn't even think of Donna, I haven't heard that name in ages, but I knew one as a child!

Elle is a weird one for anyone who did any French at school at all to choose - je, tu, il, elle, nous, vous - surely everyone thinks "that isn't a name, it just means she (or it for a feminine noun" ... Ella is a bit better, but why Elle?

Isabel or Ella or Emilia or Emily or Lily are just so boring. A few years ago everyone was calling their baby girl Isabel, for some reason I always associate the name Isabel with having a horrible cold. Kayden and Jayden are the new Kevins.
