There are some names like Connie and Matilda.... Popular ones that I hate and just don't get.
Any names that are popular you just don't get?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

May be totally outing who knows but lots of people (including me) hated my sons name Raymond aka Ray. On the plus side you dont get many of in the playground.

Sophiathefortyfirst · 14/03/2019 15:09

Eww yes Morag is awful too! There was a woman called Morag on a forum I used to post on and she was vile; self righteous, rude, pompous. It made me hate the name even more!

Ghostwriter90 · 14/03/2019 15:04

Morag is a terrible name.

My name is not that unusual, but not common either and hasn't been mentioned. Neither have my DDs' names.

I really dislike surnames for first names and the morons who think it is all right to call a child (for example) Tommy instead of Thomas or Alfie/Archie instead of the proper name. I don't like Morag, but that could be because of a Morag I knew at school and disliked.

NorthernRunner · 14/03/2019 13:44

My mom wanted to call me Delilah but my dad said it was a cows name so I was Adele instead 😆

I really don’t like American sounding names, so things like Cody/Cady, Brielle, Bryce, Kayden/Jayden, Armani...

sharpstick · 14/03/2019 13:30

Delilah. She sounds like she wouldn’t be pleasant person, no idea why!

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 14/03/2019 12:28

Hunter, Parker, River

Ccec · 14/03/2019 12:22

Both my son and baby to be names are mentioned a few times haha. Glad to see im not the only one to dislike Jayden, its my sons middle name through complete choice of his dad and years on i still can't grow to vaguely like it.
Not a name in particular but i really dont understand people who choose to only name their children with the same first letter, then they have 8 children and by the third it just looks like they are making names up to continue the theme of all being S or T etc. It's possible to like 2 names beginning with the same letter maybe but by the third child it does look made up and silly. Each to their own though!

Sophiathefortyfirst · 14/03/2019 12:20

I agree too on Iris being awful! It's another Emperors New Clothes type name that everyone seems to fawn over

LeopardPrintKnickers · 14/03/2019 12:04

I knew my girls' names would be listed, and there they both were within the first 18 posts!

Good job we're not all the same...

missmouse101 · 14/03/2019 12:01

Amelia and similar, all ugly 'mealy mealy' sounding-yuk! Iris FGS too. It's part of the eye. Boring old Emma, James, etc. Chav names like Tanisha.

TheMuminator2 · 14/03/2019 11:54

meredith betty nora wilfred minnie delilah ethel agatha

Thesearmsofmine · 14/03/2019 11:30

There’s loads of names I dislike.

Any name hyphenated with May/mae/mai.

Hayden/Jayden/Brandon etc

I don’t like Harrison, I don’t know why but it sounds like it would be a naughty boys name to me.

I don’t like Lily, it sounds awful in our local accent and it is a name I hear shouted all the time in the park or supermarket and I just hate how it sounds.

Anything too cutesy like Tilly or Gracie, fine as a nickname but not as a full name.

DarlingOscar · 14/03/2019 11:20

should be irrational - nothing rational about hating names!

DarlingOscar · 14/03/2019 11:19

I quite like older names like Arthur, Stanley, George, henry - just not keen on my Dad's generation's names: Kenneth, Malcolm, Brian etc - but they'll have their day again I guess?

Rational dislikes? Georgina. Alexandra. Just don't like the sounds they end in.

chickenalapesh · 14/03/2019 10:33

I know some really bazar named kids.

Skyler and Halloway (is that actually a real name) brothers.

Stanley and Ernie

I don't like really generic names like Hannah, Jack, Henry, Harry.

Can't believe my names haven't been mentioned!

MatildaTheGreat · 14/03/2019 07:59

Actually my name isn’t Matilda, but inspired by someone I met recently who was great.

The only names I can’t get my head round are those that are misspelled in an attempt at uniqueness.

MatildaTheGreat · 14/03/2019 07:56

Ahem Hmm

aliceelizaloves · 14/03/2019 07:48

I think it just shows how different everyone's taste is. My daughter's name is on here multiple times. Haven't seen my son's but his is more unusual and far more marmite in real life so I'm sure lots of people don't like it. Some of my favourites are on here though and usually they seem quite popular on mn!

GirlRaisedInTheSouth · 14/03/2019 07:37

Both of my DC and my name have been mentioned on this thread Grin. Names I have an irrational hatred for:

Olivia (reminds me of the color olive which I hate)
Meg (reminds me of eggs which I hate)
Anything with -Mae, especially when the parents say “it’s a family name” Hmm.

sashh · 14/03/2019 07:25

Surnames used as first names. Particularly for girls, lots of women still change their name when they get married, sooner or later there will be a Taylor Taylor

Jack - so utterly pointlessly boring non name. No meaning, no interesting translations.

And also a nickname for John (occasionally James) I find it particularly odd when parents have two children with basically the same name.

Names from cultures / religions that have nothing to do with the family. Keanu is fine if you granny is from Hawaii, if not you are naming our child after an actor.

purplepears · 14/03/2019 04:15

Hugh

Envy
purplepears · 14/03/2019 04:13

Hannah.
Awful

RubyRed85 · 14/03/2019 03:50

Lucas..... I just hear Mucus Confused

ForeverFaithless · 13/03/2019 23:25

Jack - so utterly pointlessly boring non name. No meaning, no interesting translations.

Not bothered by all the fluffy made up names, I roll my eyes, but at least it shows a bit of imagination.

Aghh now I have that 80s song in my head!!
