Any thoughts?

I'm not sure if it's a bit like calling your child town centre or plaza something.

Great name!

SileneOliveira · 04/04/2019 09:47

I love this name, it's classy, timeless, easy to spell, unusual but not weird.

MercyBodle · 04/04/2019 08:28

I think it's a strong international name and quite usable. I think of the royal family - the queen's aunt by marriage was Princess Marina and there are currently 2 Marinas (descendants of the first Marina) in the royal family - Marina Charlotte Alexandra Katharine Helen Windsor, and Marina Victoria Alexandra Ogilvy.

ApplestheHare · 04/04/2019 04:51

Haha thanks reeny19 I'm glad you like it despite the singing! I think we'll use it if everything goes to plan over the next few weeks.

It’s my name 🙈 pretty sure I got named after the car, and people always sing the aquamarina song to me (very annoying). Most recently it happened about two weeks ago....
DH thinks it’s not a proper name but I love it, stands out a bit and I quite like the odd jokes about cars, boats etc.
My mum thinks it’s a posh name! I think on one hand it sounds posh, on the other, super tacky. Depends on what you associate it with I guess. ah well, I still like it!

I’d say go for it, never caused me any issue. (But I have grown to hate stingray with a passion)

JaretsGirlfren · 14/03/2019 05:51

I really like it, it seems like a ‘cool’ name to me

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 14/03/2019 05:18

Lovely and unusual

ApplestheHare · 13/03/2019 19:39

I'd not thought about Marina Hyde or Abramovic but both are great, thank you!

Love it! Really beautiful

OrdinaryGirl · 12/03/2019 18:00

Oh and of course the magnetic Marina Abramovic as mentioned up thread ❤️

OrdinaryGirl · 12/03/2019 17:59

Love it! (And I remember both Marina in Stingray and Marina the mysterious diver in the beautiful film Local Hero 👵🏻)

howdoyoukeepawaveuponthesand · 12/03/2019 16:30

Fabulous name.

I know a Marina in her 60s and she is absolutely wonderful so I may be biased.

I also love the pop singer Marina and the Diamonds. She’s beautiful.

Ariela · 12/03/2019 16:25

I think it's a lovely name. Possibly outing here, but in another life, years ago I had a job in which from time to time I had to speak to Marina Ogilvy (was Mowatt at the time, don't think she had a very happily married life) and I thought she was absolutely lovely too, always thinking of other people first, she always remembered past conversations eg if I said I wouldn't be there next time she'd ask how my holiday went etc. So the name has only very nice connotations for me.

aliceandkids77 · 12/03/2019 15:55

don't really like sorry OP. but if you love it then go for it, she is your dd after all!

Pemba · 12/03/2019 15:15

I think it's lovely, and a bit unusual.

ApplestheHare · 12/03/2019 14:44

nometal that sounds like a great first car. I'd like a plum coloured car now!

brizzlemint that poor girl, Seren and Severn sound the same Confused

Jessabean I think you're right that someone will always find something to pick on with a name, especially kids. I keep reminding myself that nobody's really bothered about names once you're an adult and so it will probably work out find in the end whatever we call her!Grin

Mine was purpleish too. Although, the official name was Midnight Blue. A sort of plum colour.

Reg number NHX 566L. Funny what you remember.

MarthasGinYard · 12/03/2019 09:37

dontcallmelen · 12/03/2019 09:21

nometal · 12/03/2019 08:54

My first car was a Marina.

Marina?
Luckingfovely · 12/03/2019 08:44

Love it

GMtoBe · 12/03/2019 08:39

Beautiful name. My aunt is French and it's her name. I think it's lovely.

BoudicasBoudoir · 12/03/2019 08:27

Princess Marina, too. The Queen’s aunt.

Where I grew up (far-flung and rural) there were two or three Marinas, very likely all related, and they pronounced it Mar-EYE-na.

ZaZathecat · 12/03/2019 08:08

It's lovely. I've known 3 Marinas: 2 Russian and 1 Italian. Younger people are more likely to think of Marina and the Diamonds, which is quite a cool association.

daisypond · 12/03/2019 08:02

It's a really nice name, I love it - I know a bright and beautiful Marina in her 20s, which probably influences me. But as mentioned above, all the Marinas I can think of have positive associations.
