We've picked our boys name - George - but finding it so hard for girls names. I'd like a name that's strong but also pretty.

Which name would you pick for your daughter out of this list (if you had to!)

Which name is the most awful to you, and why?

Rosa
Honor
Maeve
Minerva
Ophelia
Beatrix
Anastasia
Margot
Thea /Theodosia
Rowena
Emie
Frieda/Frida
Nora
Alexandra
Marcella
Marceline

Thanks!

I think the nicest ones are Rosa, Margot and Anastasia.

Don't like nora or Minerva... think they just sounds very old lady like... although I do generally like older names.

WarmCoffee · 09/03/2019 22:59

Thanks everyone!

Some mixed opinions, but I think a few names have effectively been ruled out!

I love Nora.

Shadow1234 · 09/03/2019 22:39

Rosa is the only one that stands out for me. Short and strong.

Ihavealwaysknown · 09/03/2019 22:21

I’d pick Beatrix, not keen on Anastasia 🤷🏻‍♀️ Good luck op!

DramaAlpaca · 09/03/2019 22:03

I'd pick Rosa or Alexandra for strong & pretty, and Maeve because it has a beautiful simplicity about it.

I'd be least likely to pick Nora, Margot or Frieda because I think they are all really ugly names, and Thea because it's weak sounding.

Letthemysterybe · 09/03/2019 21:14

Beatrix Margot and Nora are my favourites. I really don’t like Thea or Ophelia.

TacoLover · 09/03/2019 21:13

I love Rosa. Strong and pretty.

WeMarchOn · 09/03/2019 21:11

Minerva sounds like a contraceptive pill

novasglowx · 09/03/2019 20:45

I have an Anastasia Grin

pinkpanther84 · 09/03/2019 20:40

I like Thea the best

newmumFeb17 · 09/03/2019 20:26

We are choosing Thea for our DD2 due in May. Really love it and glad to see so many PPs on here do too!

MondeoFan · 09/03/2019 20:18

Rowena Awful
Marceline pretty

finallychangedmyusername · 09/03/2019 20:17

I love Rosa, Alexandra or Beatrix.

SophiaLarsen · 09/03/2019 20:11

Not a mad fan of Nora because 'Bleedin' Nora!'

Never heard of Theodosia before.

I like Margot and Rosa. I think Margot has the potential to be less common.

TatianaLarina · 09/03/2019 20:10

Lots of lovely name:

Rosa
Honor
Minerva
Ophelia
Beatrice (don’t like Beatrix)
Margot

Don’t like the others. Margot is a bit overused.

Walkmehome · 09/03/2019 20:08

Rosa. Not keen on your other names.

onemorerose · 09/03/2019 20:07

I like Norah

Pixel99 · 09/03/2019 20:03

I love Thea,

longestlurkerever · 09/03/2019 20:01

I love Thea. My DD2 has a "th" sound in her name and a lot of kids, including dd1 say it with a "f" sound instead. It doesn't bother me, but thought I'd mention since you asked about Fear.

Gingerkittykat · 09/03/2019 19:55

I thought Minerva was a brand of coil but a quick google told me it was Mirena.

Margot sounds too English middle class for my liking, but then I am Scottish which might account for that.

I like Honor, strong and different without being weird.

Pkimber · 09/03/2019 19:55

Sorry forgot to add i think honor is the worst, to many jokes can be linked with it. Anastasia is really nice, i have a close friend with that name and she is amazing.

Susannach · 09/03/2019 19:53

These are gorgeous!

I’d pick Honor, Beatrix or Frida. Beatrix if I absolutely had to decide on one.

I’d lose Ophelia (unfortunate teasing potential), Theodosia (too much, although I love Theodora) and Emie (too cutesy/unfinished).

Twisique · 09/03/2019 19:48

Loving Minerva!
Emie looks unfinished.

Icypop · 09/03/2019 19:48

Love maeve, hate honor & minerva is a brand of kitchen worktops so dont use that!
