Is Lily too popular?

I love the name Lily. Is it too popular? I’m worried that when she goes to school there might be 4 in each class.
Any suggestions welcome!

There's a really easy way of settling this;

names.darkgreener.com/#lily
number 10 in popularity last year

However if you add Lily with the spelling Lilly it takes it to 3289, which would make it number 4!

Yes it is very popular, but If you really like it. I.wouldn't let that put you off.
Its okay suggesting another flower name, but Rose, Daisy, Jasmine. and Violet, aren't exactly unheard of either, so You might as well go with what you love

IggyAce · 08/03/2019 21:59

I know 2 Lily’s the same age as my dd (11) and there is one in ds class (8).

Summer23 · 08/03/2019 21:41

If you love it that’s what matters. I would advise not asking for opinions as you’ll get too many responses!! My DD is named Lily and is a bit older now, so at the point it was more an old fashioned name. She is still the only Lily in her class.

MsTSwift · 08/03/2019 21:29

Rendered dull through over use.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 08/03/2019 20:12

If you like it, use it!

It's a pretty classic. There may be another in school. There's 127 4 Avas, Evies, Ellas and Amelias at our school and they have exploded!
I fear for some of the odd names, mind!

HighestMountains · 08/03/2019 20:06

I know a few, they are all primary age or older now. Two are actually calles Elizabeth - could be a possibility maybe?

OKBobble · 08/03/2019 20:04

I have literally just commented about Lily as a name and how after hearing Staaaaacey Slaaaater on EAstenders call her daughter 'Lil' in her accent I could never use that name now!!

Valkarie · 08/03/2019 19:59

It's a beautiful name. If you like it, who cares if it is popular. You can pick an unusual one but then find out it becomes top 10 the next year anyway.

eatthepineapple · 08/03/2019 19:42

I have a 14 month and only come across 1 Lily in all the baby groups etc. I'd heard it was popular but doesn't seem to be Lily's everywhere in my experience

Claphands · 08/03/2019 19:29

I meant to say I really loved Lillian this time round but couldn’t use it because of our surname clashing

Claphands · 08/03/2019 19:28

Lily was my favourite name before it became so popular but I didn’t have dc then so couldn’t use it, it put me off a bit so now I do have a DD I used a different name but it’s still a beautiful name OP

Ellieboolou27 · 08/03/2019 19:23

2 in my dd’s Class, she’s 6

OMGithurts · 08/03/2019 19:23

I think Willow is the new Lily/Lilly. The girls I know called Lily are preschool age.

ArtisanPopcorn · 08/03/2019 19:21

There's a Lilya, Lily and Lily-Mae in my daughter's reception class. I do feel it's gone a bit down-market.

aidelmaidel · 08/03/2019 19:20

IN Abroad not I'm abroad. When being whimsically incoherent always check for typos. We live in Abroad.

aidelmaidel · 08/03/2019 19:19

We called DD Lily after her great-grandma. Then we realized it was popular. Less so I'm Abroad where we live but still. Oh well.

EyesAreNeverClosing · 08/03/2019 19:17

It's popular because it's lovely. I'd use it if it's your favourite.

Stormwhale · 08/03/2019 19:14

There are 3 lilys in dds reception class.

Bumblebeesmum · 08/03/2019 19:12

I’m surprised someone would describe Lily as a chav name tbh as I really don’t get that - but I guess it depends on your personal / local associations

Bumblebeesmum · 08/03/2019 19:11

Names aren’t popular in the way there were when we were kids. The vast majority of kids have names not in the top 10. Even in the top 10 you’d not average more than a couple in a year group. It’s just not the same as when half the class were called John. Parents now obsess about being unusual / unique etc meaning only the very top or ones at the top for many years are that popular.

Lily is a lovely name.

DizziLizzy · 08/03/2019 19:11

In my job I teach in the region of 400 children a week. In the 0-5 age group Lily/Lilly is not that popular (any more).

Popular does not = common/chav!

Lovely name Wink

MikeUniformMike · 08/03/2019 19:10

It is still very popular but if you love it use it.

mrsdavys · 08/03/2019 18:22

I think Lily is lovely and although I don’t normally like popular names, I like Lily so much that I’d still use it!

Deletemyname30 · 08/03/2019 18:03

It's a lovely name. I have a very popular name....always top ten. Back in the day it wasn't popular but in the 90s and 00s very popular and still popular now. The reason being it's a beautiful name. Though there are lots of women/girls with my name it doesn't cause me problems and it doesn't feel like everyone is called it.
I always get compliments. Go for it
