Interested to know people’s opinions on this name for a boy....maybe it’s my hormones, but I woke up a week ago and it’s all I can think of!! 😂

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I absolutely love it, but I'm a big ska/reggae fan. I've come across a few Rudy's over the years, most of them down south, always middle class, quite cool parents but not too radical. If that sounds like you, go for it Wink. I'm not as keen on the spelling Rudi, though it is that way in Rudi Can't Fail.

Sessy19 · 09/03/2019 06:24

@missbrightside09, don’t feel you need to defend your son’s name...look how overwhelmingly positive the responses are!! 😊

Not everyone will be supportive, but when a quirkier name is mentioned, a significant number of parents recoil because they wouldn’t dare imagine naming their child from outside the top 10!

It is a really good name. It’s strong and masculine. I suspect many of those who have expressed concern (well, just 123Flopsy, really, who seems to be particularly troubled by it!) have either been subject to name mocking themselves and have very popular samey names for their own kids. And that is fine. It’s what keeps the world turning!

I like it! Know a 3 year old Rudy and he really suits it

missbrightside09 · 08/03/2019 21:06

Sorry I feel like I need to comment again because the number of negative comments on here is just ridiculous. We have never had any negative comments, in fact most ppl say what a lovely and cool name it is. Our Rudi is named after the character in the book thief and I have also met a holocaust survivor by the name of Rudi when he came into the school I was working in to give a talk to the children; Didn't seem like such a silly name then.

Rudes Shock

Mintypea5 · 08/03/2019 19:43

My cousins husband is called Rudy. He’s Cuban. I think it’s avreally nice name

blankittyblank · 08/03/2019 19:37

My son is called Rudy! I absolutely love it. Also call him Rudes for short. It's becoming quite popular I think, as I've heard a few around recently.

Cobblersandhogwash · 08/03/2019 19:30

I ❤️ Rudy. Brilliant name.

independentgroupie · 08/03/2019 16:30

I think of Rudy Giuliani...

Sessy19 · 08/03/2019 16:27

*that isn’t too popular

@tothesea That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing 😊

@Ohyes, I would think it’s had it’s day in Jamaica, the Rude Boy revolution in the ‘70s was the stimulus for quite aggravated violence.

Rudyard is a brilliant name, but I just like Rudy or Rudi on it’s own. With our surname, it’s pretty cool too 😁

I’ve got a long way to go, yet, so I may have other ideas before too long but I’ve got girl names all wrapped up and it’s so hard to find a good boy’s name that isn’t

That said, Rudy moved into the top 1000 last year (2017 figs)

@sessy19 I have a super cool 8 year Rudi and teasing by the aforementioned silly petty minds has just never come up.
We even call him Rudes for short! It’s just a really cool name so I say go for it!

EstrellaDamn · 08/03/2019 16:08

We almost used it, DH is a big aka fan.

sue51 · 08/03/2019 16:06

I love it. I'm stuck with that song in my head for the rest of the day now.

Ohyesiam · 08/03/2019 16:00

He was British Jamaican, does anyone know if it’s popular in Jamaica?

Ohyesiam · 08/03/2019 15:58

Ooh cross post with another Rudyard( much nicer than Rudolph imho)

Ohyesiam · 08/03/2019 15:57

The coolest kid I knew growing up in NorthLondon was Rudy, ( Rudyard) .

He looked so good in a hoodie, one of the first hoodies in the 80s. He could draw brilliantly and he was THE BEST KISSER!
Yes, go for Rudy op!

Sessy19 · 08/03/2019 15:47

I’m quite surprised that it’s relatively well received. I hadn’t really considered any longer versions, but @MiniMaxi, I like Rudyard. I also like RudolfRudolph, and might add these for discussion with OH.

Thanks all 😊

MiniMaxi · 08/03/2019 15:26

I quite like it! Rudyard for long?

Notanotheroneone · 08/03/2019 13:00

I love it! Was on my list for DS but DH vetoed it as he thought it was another name for fart!

Sessy19 · 08/03/2019 13:00

@Easter 😂😂😂

Easterbunnyiscomingsoon · 08/03/2019 12:59

I feel sorry for the dc with high value piss taking names tbh.

Sessy19 · 08/03/2019 12:42

@123Flopsy. You’ve commented a number of times, but I’m not suggesting to name your child. Your point has no value

OP posts:
Sessy19 · 08/03/2019 12:41

We’ve chosen William for my Dad. Who’s been known as Willie his entire life. Never been teased. I feel sorry for the children of those with such silly, petty minds!!! 😂😂😂😂

We reap what we sow. If you allow your child to be a bully, you incite teasing into your lives

OP posts:
ryanreynolds · 08/03/2019 11:55

I love it. Suspect DH will veto though...we haven't discussed names yet!!
