Chelsey or Chelsie?

Good evening!
So now DH and me are lingering between these two spellings, which we both love. We like Chelsey because it's kind of more mature and not that girly and cutesy. But the problem is, we feel like there's too many E's in this spelling, which sometimes really annoy us. And that leads us to our second choice: Chelsie. We love that how it ends in -ie, which will fit her as a little girl and a teenager for quite some time, and is still not that cutesy and childish when it comes to an adult.
So, that's basically our thought. What do you guys think? Which one should we go with? And why?
Thanks

OP, if you don’t want girly and cutesy, don’t choose either variant of this name. Chelsey or Chelsie are the epitome of slightly sickly girliness.

HoraceCope · 07/03/2019 07:27

Chelsie is hideous. Chelsey is better. Chelsea is the best.

yup

PlaymobilPirate · 07/03/2019 07:27

Spell it the proper way or choose a different name.

trulybadlydeeply · 07/03/2019 07:23

I think either way, you are lumbering her with a lifetime of correcting people's spelling of her name, and she will be forever saying " no it's ey/ie not the usual spelling of the place. Therefore if you want to go with one of the incorrect spellings, I would go with the phonetically closer one, which to me is" ie" as in piece/ chief/ thief etc (although obviously it can also give an "eye" sound...)

Is anyone else singing Ebeneezer Goode now?

ArgyMargy · 07/03/2019 07:19

Eee, I'm loving this thread - had to check it wasn't in AIBU!

MyNameIsABCDE · 07/03/2019 07:19

Chelsey if you really have to

AloneLonelyLoner · 07/03/2019 07:18

Pimlico is quite a lovely name. Good call. No E's (horrifying wee bastards) and a nice area of Old Smoky. Both Chelsie and Chelsey have the same number of E's, both are fuckin awful. Unless you are in the US and you may get away with it. In the UK the sound of laughter will follow your daughter around wherever she goes.

FamilyOfAliens · 07/03/2019 07:14

No, if my 18 experience of working in primary schools is anything to go by, she’ll be called “Chels”.

TixieLix · 07/03/2019 07:12

Neither. I personally think it's an awful name to give a child, even with the correct spelling. The spelling is irrelevant though because all her school friends will call her 'Chel' Grin.

TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius · 07/03/2019 07:10

I quite like a nice e personally. What is the issue with an e ? Low score at scrabble I agree but other than that they are useful surely? Now an r I can see people getting arsey about. They can be tricky little fuckers.

Cwenthryth · 07/03/2019 07:10

Grin how can Chelsey have too many ‘e’s when it has the same number as Chelsie and the correctly spelt Chelsea?!?

If you don’t like ‘e’s (no judgementSmile) then how about some other areas of London that don’t have an e in them at all

Brompton
Dalston
Chingford
Harringay
Holborn
Paddington
Pimlico?

SparkiePolastri · 07/03/2019 07:07

But the problem is, we feel like there's too many E's in this spelling, which sometimes really annoy us

I am loving the royal 'we' in the OP.

Sexist as it is, I can't imagine any self-respecting bloke letting a couple of Es 'really annoy' him.

🤣🤣

cptartapp · 07/03/2019 07:05

It is cutesy and childis. No getting away from it.
Not a nice name, Chelsea if you absolutely must.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 07/03/2019 07:04

My sister is called Chelsey spelt like that, and she has had a lifetime of people spelling it incorrectly and writing Chelsea.

beckieperk · 07/03/2019 06:55

Is this a wind up?? You sound like a bit of an Eediot. Grin

Spiderbanana · 07/03/2019 06:54

My friend is Leanne but her parents wanted to be different and spelt it Leane. It is a total pain. Stick with standard spelling

If you really want to name your child after a London borough, Chiswick starts with a Ch and doesn't have any Es in it Wink

FindPrimeLorca · 07/03/2019 06:53

Why on earth did you post on MN when you already knew what the outcome would be?

CountessVonBoobs · 07/03/2019 06:53

All are horrific, but Chelsie is the very worst. If you really must name a child Chelsea, at least minimise the insult by spelling it correctly.

SemperIdem · 07/03/2019 06:50

But...but all versions have the same number of E’s?

craftingqueen · 07/03/2019 06:48

If I saw your kid's name on the register and you had chosen either of those spellings I would assume you and your DH aren't the brightest

toastonbean · 07/03/2019 06:46

I used to quite like Es

SparkiePolastri · 07/03/2019 06:43

😂

To be fair, Es are annoying little bastards.

AuntieStella · 07/03/2019 06:41

They all have 2 'e's

I prefer the normal spelling by a considerable distance.

But if you must use one of the others, I'd go for Chelsey.
