Chelsey or Chelsie?

Good evening!
So now DH and me are lingering between these two spellings, which we both love. We like Chelsey because it's kind of more mature and not that girly and cutesy. But the problem is, we feel like there's too many E's in this spelling, which sometimes really annoy us. And that leads us to our second choice: Chelsie. We love that how it ends in -ie, which will fit her as a little girl and a teenager for quite some time, and is still not that cutesy and childish when it comes to an adult.
So, that's basically our thought. What do you guys think? Which one should we go with? And why?
Thanks

I prefer Chelsy to either of your spellings, but would pick Chelsie over Chelsey if someone was holding a gun to my head in the register office and I had to pick one of them for my newborn daughter.

To be clear, those are the only circumstances in which I would pick the name, regardless of spelling.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 07/03/2019 08:50

You can’t call a child Chiswick, you’ll be forever correcting the pronunciation.

Wembley has a nice sound to it.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 07/03/2019 08:47

They both have two Es in it Confused

But if you have to choose then go for Chelsey. Chelsie is awful

I don't like Chelsea it's the football team.

JRMisOdious · 07/03/2019 08:45

Unless it’s twins and you name the other Kensington (sorry if that’s already been done Grin)

mydogisthebest · 07/03/2019 08:45

For such a horrible name I can't believe how common it is so for that reason alone I would not choose it.

Chelsie is absolutely awful and would make me think of a dog always

JRMisOdious · 07/03/2019 08:43

Sorry, none of the above.

QuirkyQuark · 07/03/2019 08:40

there's too many E's in this spelling, which sometimes really annoy us.

Why do E's annoy you both?

I don't think I've ever been annoyed by an E.

I'm very confused and quite frankly concerned that you can't count how many E's are in each spelling of the not great name you've chosen for your newborn.

CardiganB · 07/03/2019 08:36

How about Becca (nickname Tooting)?

TildaTurnip · 07/03/2019 08:34

I would say them very slightly differently.

Order of preference:
Chelsea
Chelsey
Chelsie

Unguent · 07/03/2019 08:33

Ch*l-si?

CallMeRachel · 07/03/2019 08:29

I'd get rid of at least one of those pesky e's
and go for Chell-c GrinWink

LostwithSawyer · 07/03/2019 08:29

Is this a joke Grin both are hideous and look like you can't spell.

Kintan · 07/03/2019 08:21

Why why why would you want to give your child a purposefully mis-spelled name? I think that's a pretty cruel thing to do.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 07/03/2019 07:54

Sorry but Chelsey or Chelsie or Chelsea are all awful, I thought that name had died a death with Chardonnay.

CountessVonBoobs · 07/03/2019 07:53

Nonononono, grumble. I think what the OP is really looking for is... Millwall.

GrumbleBumble · 07/03/2019 07:51

Fulham? Brentford? Barnet?

Sexnotgender · 07/03/2019 07:48

I prefer Chelsee.

Honestly it’s dreadful sorry OP.

azulmariposa · 07/03/2019 07:46

Kids with creative names will struggle for the rest of their lives having to spell it an constantly correct pronunciation.

Also, however you spell it it's still the name of a football club (and quite chavvy) and the poor child will probably have the piss taken all the time because of that.

RoomForMore · 07/03/2019 07:45

This thread Grin savage but funny! I'd go for Chelsey or Chelsy (even better if you want to avoid one of those pesky e's)

TemporaryPermanent · 07/03/2019 07:45

If i were forced I'd pick Chelsie because i hate Chelsey so much. i think it could grow on me.

I do think Michelle is due a revival if you reconsider.

anniehm · 07/03/2019 07:43

Sorry they are both tacky, the sort of names other parents snigger about in the playground. You asked for an honest opinion and like so many others here my advice to to use the established spelling and seriously consider if it's a suitable name for a professional job - there was a thread yesterday about a man changing his name by deed poll because he felt his name wasn't compatible with being a teacher. It's such an American name.

foxsbiscuit · 07/03/2019 07:38

Please don't do this. I have a name that can be spelled multiple ways and I hate having to spell it all the time. People constantly get it wrong even when copying it from paper. Emails at work don't reach me, my name badge is spelled wrong. Birthday cards from friends get it wrong, even my DP has got it wrong before now. Use Chelsea or find another name.

Rubberduckies · 07/03/2019 07:37

Chelsea,
Chelsey,
Chelsie

Do they not all have 2 Es each?

Regardless, I think you're bonkers to deliberately misspell the name so your child will have to go through her entire life correcting people and being sent post with the wrong spelling.

People will think you can't spell! I had a conversation with a social worker about a child I was referring.

"So the name is ........ spelt ....... but without the E"

"Without the E? Do you think that was a mistake do you think? You'd think the midwife or registry staff could have said something! How do you pronounce it? It looks like........

"Oh no the pronunciation is the same, only the spelling is different"

Bellatrix14 · 07/03/2019 07:33

Reads the two names. Thinks ‘They both have 2 Es in them.’ Reads the names again. Wonders if missing something. Starts to question own ability to count to 2.

I’m very boring and grumpy OP, and it makes me Hmm when names that are nouns are ‘wrong’ in their spelling, for example Lilly or Hollie. But if I had to pick one it would be Chelsey. Names that end in ‘ie’ tend to look like they’re short for something to me, which this isn’t.

sashh · 07/03/2019 07:30

If you must name your daughter after a football team then maybe you should go for American football rather than soccer?

I quite like Seahawk but I think Patriot might be a good option.

BTW how do you feel about cousin marriage?
