Chelsey or Chelsie?

Good evening!
So now DH and me are lingering between these two spellings, which we both love. We like Chelsey because it's kind of more mature and not that girly and cutesy. But the problem is, we feel like there's too many E's in this spelling, which sometimes really annoy us. And that leads us to our second choice: Chelsie. We love that how it ends in -ie, which will fit her as a little girl and a teenager for quite some time, and is still not that cutesy and childish when it comes to an adult.
So, that's basically our thought. What do you guys think? Which one should we go with? And why?
Thanks

I agree with the consensus that Chelsea would be the best of a bad lot.

But do consider the other London-related possibilities that people have offered, to which I’ll add the suggestion of Mottingham.

And if you want the football connection, and to avoid any plaguey vowels, how about ‘Cooper’, spelt Qpr?

Sessy19 · 07/03/2019 20:11

The name isn’t to my taste, but I’d consider the spelling Chelsey over all the other spellings. I think Chelsea is a gross spelling of the name!!

I haven’t read the whole thread because I was bored of the pretty petty refusal to respond to the actual OP. So mumsnet!!

There are two Es in every way you spell it 😉

SilverySurfer · 07/03/2019 20:03

If I met someone with either of those two spellings it would be easy to assume the parents were illiterate. Please don't do it.

mbb1 · 07/03/2019 17:52

Both awful and super chavvy

MikeUniformMike · 07/03/2019 17:37

The name is normally spelt Chelsea. Have you considered Chelzi?

EveryoneFreeze · 07/03/2019 14:53

(Also I’m American and I don’t think those unusual spellings would be any more accepted there than here!)

EveryoneFreeze · 07/03/2019 14:52

Chelsea

HighestMountains · 07/03/2019 14:49

Of those options I prefer the y ending but honestly think the most common spelling is the best!

I always associate the name with Hillary and Bill Clinton.

lisamac28 · 07/03/2019 14:40

I prefer Chelsey please reconsider Chelsea

ClaraMatilda · 07/03/2019 13:49

Chelsea. Or maybe Kelsey.

Chelsey is better than Chelsie but not by much. Chelsie is on par with Chelsi, Chelsei, Chelsai in terms of sticking random vowels on the end.

IHeartKingThistle · 07/03/2019 13:47

Fucking snobbish behaviour on here, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

For the record, OP, I'm in the UK and have taught 2 Chelseys and a Chelsie without any problems spelling their names. I like them both. Also, all the Chelseas, Chelseys and Chelsies I've taught have been lovely, lovely girls.

sashh · 07/03/2019 13:39

No wonder the OP hasn't come back. What horrible bitches you're being.

The OP started it, she insulted the letter 'e'.

LazyLizzy · 07/03/2019 11:02

Neither, I would think you were illiterate.

CountessVonBoobs · 07/03/2019 10:54

“No, CHIZick, not CHIS-WICK!”

I actually think little Chizzy would fit in pretty well at pony club with Bunty and Jocasta.

RiverTam · 07/03/2019 10:46

Oh, I think the OP would have known what she was getting into posting this.

Both awful and setting your DD up for a lifetime of having to correct people's spelling which will be deeply tiresome and she won't forgive you.

BigusBumus · 07/03/2019 10:43

babysharkah · 07/03/2019 10:29

You must be having a laugh.

BlueMerchant · 07/03/2019 10:14

Chelsey although I don't like either. Reminds me of a cheap brand of clothing. In fact, in sure it is. Both Chelsey and Chelsie

PlatypusPie · 07/03/2019 10:12

I would read Chelsey as being pronounced with a z, rather like Lesley. Chelsie as a slightly abbreviated version of Chelsea, with the emphasis on the end rather than the even pronunciation ie Chel-Si ! rather than Chel-Sea. It makes it seem more cutsie.

My DD1 has a short name that ends in an A - not a made up one or that unusual, but there is a name that is quite close - think Julia vs Julie or Anna vs Anne . She has to correct the lopping off of her final vowel all the time and that is with a quite traditional name without any ‘special’ spelling.

ColeHawlins · 07/03/2019 10:04

Penge.

MagicKingdom · 07/03/2019 09:03

My name is spelt Chelsie. I had a girls in school also called Chelsea/Chelsie. Never met a dog called Chelsie!

KateGrey · 07/03/2019 09:00

I think most people would assume it’s actually Chelsea. Why mess with a name? My name is quite traditional I suppose and it can be spelt 4 different ways. Please give your kid a normal name not your version of that name.

TheFaerieQueene · 07/03/2019 08:57

What if she doesn’t like football and/or reality tv????

ShePutTheHamsterWhere · 07/03/2019 08:57

Isn't there the same amount of 'e's.

PercyGherkin · 07/03/2019 08:57

LOL at Chardonnay: “No, CHIZick, not CHIS-WICK!” Her brother Lay-sester has the same problem.
