Looking for modern Muslim baby boy names

I'm really struggling to think of Muslim baby boy names.

I like unique and trendy names whilst my husband wants to stick to traditional Muslim names, not easy!

I have found a few modern Arabic names like Cairo which I believe would be acceptable what do you think and let me know if you have any suggestions?

I would never use my surname, as I believe this should be the father's. Also we have DS1 who has his surname so definitely want my kids to have the same surname.

If I can find a suitable name then I have no problem with choosing a Muslim name for the first name - Asher is looking like the most likely option.

If that doesn't suit him at birth then I'll have to rethink my options!

I just love the name Cairo something keeps drawing me back to it not sure what! But yes I hate that it's a city 😣

A friend of a friend has a little boy called Moyes (I'm not sure on the exact spelling or what it means) but she said it's a muslim name.

Asher.
I think Cairo will date ( lots of places as names at the moment iyswim, eg Brooklyn, Paris, Chicago, etc)

Cairo is not great. Asher shortened to Ash is better.
I like the names Esa, Samir, Zacharaia, Hadi. why does his Dad get all the choices? You need to address that asap. Does he get control over anything else?

Any biblical name works as the bible predates the Koran, if you use anglicised spellings it's a nod to your culture. My friend has an Adam and a Rachel and she's originally from Dubai. They then have long Arabic middle names are Khan is their surname.

I like Asher much better than Cairo.

It does not seem fair that baby's dad gets to choose middle name, surname AND first name.

Thank you everyone, Baby is due in just 5 weeks!

I'm still very undecided and open to new suggestions but at the moment I think we've decided on him being either Asher (Arabic form is Ashar) or Cairo. What do you prefer?

I think I will have to wait until birth and then decide once I meet him!

What about an English form of an Arabic name like Isaac, David, Solomon, Joseph?

Asher is a Jewish name isn’t it (?) although it’s lovely I wish I’d been allowed to use it.

Zedekia is a biblical name so probably also Arabic & would nickname Kai perfectly ?

I think it’s important you choose a name that you also love but actually I do understand him wanting an Arabic name because it’s usually the person with the minority culture that fears it being lost

My cat is actually called kaiser and I really wish I'd saved it as a baby name now. But I do think Cairo is really really nice too, it's unusual as a name but everyone has heard of it and can pronounce and spell it. Asher is also a nice name that's easy to spell and pronounce.

@namechange123123 Kaiser is actually one I thought of but wasn't sure on it, I like it but don't love it.

I do like Zain but have ruled that out as a friend has a little boy by that name.

Names I like so far are:

Rayyan
Cairo
Aaryan (not sure on this being acceptable)
Ayden (variant of Turkish name Aydin)
Asher (again not convinced of the origin)

Daniel I just don't like unfortunately as it's common and I also have a relative by that name.

My ds is Azad, I also love Omar or Zain if I have another boy. Kaiser is a Muslim name so could use that with nn Kai

With 2 Asian names, I'd be looking at something English personally, so both cultures are represented. In terms of Arabic names I like Rami and lots of the Z names mentioned.

Maybe post more of the names you like so people can suggest similar types.

Daniel is very popular amongst Muslims where I come from. My favourite is probably Idris (very easy for English people to pronounce). Another option is to give him an English name but use the Muslim version at home e.g. Alexander/Iscander. Otherwise I would suggest looking at Turkish names. They’re nicer than Arabic names generally but still Muslim.

Ilyas is my favourite Arabic name. Very similar to Elias so it works well in Britain.

Idris is super cool, and it also a British (Welsh) name (Idris Elba helps, of course).

Ishmael is another Muslim/Welsh name - I love the nn Ish. I'd use it but my DP, who is neither Muslim or Welsh, is having none of it..
