Meredith or Harriet?

Pregnant with DD2 and we've whittled down the list of names to two (for now).

Meredith and Harriet.

What are your opinions on these two? Which do you prefer?

Harriet feels like the 'safer' choice but I can't stop thinking about Meredith.

Harriet

Sakura7 · 02/03/2019 19:55

Very true OP, no name will be universally liked, so just go with the name you love.

Moonflower12 · 02/03/2019 19:49

Meredith is lovely.
There are so many Harriet's about- it is lovely but not so much as Meredith.

daisypond · 02/03/2019 19:23

Harriet - but I'm not wildly keen on it - it's a bit "worthy" for my taste. However, I think Meredith is really awful.

Fedoos · 02/03/2019 19:07

@Crunchymum - I'm not really keen on just Edith. TBH, I actually think Edie is a bit of a stretch too. Probably wouldn't go with that.

@BlytheofWindyWillows - Yes, I am a Grey's fan. I'd never choose a name just based on that. I genuinely just love the name, although Grey's must be why I don't class it as an old lady name like some others seem to!

Thanks to everyone for your opinions. Definitely leaning more towards Meredith now. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but what name is?

Definitely Harriet

Mustangsallyis · 02/03/2019 18:10

Harriet. Was on my list if DS was a girl.

DrCristinaYang · 02/03/2019 18:07

I don't like Harriet, don't know why just never have.
I love the name Meredith especially because of Grey's Anatomy but I think it's a very grown up sounding name for a young child.

DuggeeHugs · 02/03/2019 18:00

Meredith Smile

BlytheofWindyWillows · 02/03/2019 16:15

I loved Meredith for DD2 but DP hated it. Are you a Greys fan OP?

bluebabydinosaur · 02/03/2019 16:14

Meredith sounds like a surname.

bluebabydinosaur · 02/03/2019 16:14

Harriet for sure. Meredith isnt a very pretty name in my mind.

Sakura7 · 02/03/2019 16:07

I love Meredith, much much nicer than Harriet. Edie is cute as a nickname.

MadameJosephine · 02/03/2019 15:56

Meredith is beautiful. I like Harriet but it’s quite popular whereas I’ve never met a little Meredith

OutOntheTilez · 02/03/2019 15:47

Meredith.

Crunchymum · 02/03/2019 15:44

Oh right I see it now Meredith

Why not call her Edith????

Crunchymum · 02/03/2019 15:40

Strike out fail Blush

MNHQ, sort out your preview function for the mobile site.... please!!!

Crunchymum · 02/03/2019 15:39

Harriet.

Do not understand how you get Edie from Meredith?

Not directed at you OP, but I really hate the current trend of giving baby a name and ausually quite different or tenuously linked nickname. Baby's get one first name..... you don't get to give them their nickname too!! Nicknames should be organic and come over time.

Even shortenings annoy me, but I understand them more!!

Mmmmbrekkie · 02/03/2019 12:51

PM-ed you!

Switsy · 02/03/2019 00:07

Harriet is just so brown and dowdy. Meredith is preferable although a bit fuddy-duddy for me. Prefer Merryn.

Dieu · 01/03/2019 23:55

Meredith is absolutely dreadful. It's a grumpy old woman name.

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 01/03/2019 23:52

Harriet.

Meredith sounds quite harsh, and reminds me of the evil step mum from the parent trap!

Shadow1234 · 01/03/2019 23:45

Meredith gets my vote

SweetButaPsycho · 01/03/2019 23:23

Much prefer Meredith

DonPablo · 01/03/2019 23:19

Both Grays names! Both excellent names!
