Is James a classic strong name or boring

Everyone seems to be picking unusual baby names these days which makes me concerned that James is just too boring. I think its a strong, handsome name but I could be wrong. Your thoughts would be really appreciated. Thanks

Bit of both, but 1000 times better than all the Charlies, , Freddies, Alfies, Albies, Archies, Ollies....

James is a beautiful, timeless name and was always my favourite for a boy.
My first born is a boy but I (we) ended up picking a name which had not even been on our 'list of potential names'.. still begins with a J coincidently, an old name but also quite cool too. I've no idea why James fell by the wayside. I love my Son's name very much, but always wonder why I didn't stick with James - the name I had loved. If you like it, go with it - go with your gut instinct.

I have one.

Despite being Scottish and apparently every second boy (slight exaggeration) being called James according to statistics we rarely meet other ones.

He was the only one at primary and now at High School out of 600 pupils there’s only 1 other.

Obviously I think it’s a strong, classic name. 😁

I've got a James and I love the name.

Another nice similar style names is David but I think the nicknames for James are nicer than Dave

Loads of possible nicknames too. Jim, Jimmy, Cheemo, Jamie, etc

I think only a very northern part of the country where J is pronounced Ch use Cheemo as a NN of James Grin. The other issue with James is you have to decide how to add as 's' on the end. There's James', James's and Jameses.

It’s a good, classic name and these days not so common, so your son is unlikely to become James F or whatever in school.

I think it's still up there in the naming charts. Not top 10, but in the top 20.

It also doesn't travel well into other languages, but this may not bother you.

I think it’s a bit dull- it’s just not my taste. But I’d find it very refreshing if someone I knew called their son James. It’s a good, classic name and these days not so common, so your son is unlikely to become James F or whatever in school.

A lovely name. DD has 3 James in her class, all lovely lads. To tell them apart though (when called) they’ve each become known by their peg picture. So there’s James the Tractor, James the Crocodile and James the Tortoise. Loads of possible nicknames too. Jim, Jimmy, Cheemo, Jamie, etc

I never really comment negatively on posts as I don't think its helpful and I do like more unusual names so again not the best person to comment, however I find it dated/boring even against some other traditional names. There are 3 James' just in my small team of 20, so popular that they all use nicknames instead.
I do strongly feel thought hat if you love a name that's all that should matter x

If one of my DCs had been a boy he'd have been called James.
