This is our final shortlist- we’d shorten Elizabeth to Effy (and Evangeline if we could get away with it- consensus on this?)

Quite a mixed bag apart from the general consensus that nn Effy is awful- we still love it and I guess if dd didn’t like it she could go by a different nn and of course that would be okay as well.
Only ever heard Margot be pronounced Mar-go in Britain so pronounciation issue doesn’t really bother us

Elizabeth is lovely but Effy is awful.
I don't like Cassie or Evangeline.
Margot is too popular.

Flopsy but in Britain, we commonly use the French pronunciation, with a silent T, not the German/Scandinavian one. I’m afraid it will always be Margot Leadbetter, aka Penelope Keith, to me.

Everyone I know uses the American pronunciation of Margot with a silent T

It's risen in popularity due to two things

Despicable Me
Paper Towns

And then people who know neither of those things hearing of babies being named Margot and thinking

"Ooo that's both unusual and classy"

Which it is. I fear it's the new Ava though.

Margot is definitely my favourite but you have excellent taste and I really like all your names. Only, if you like Effy why not just use that as a complete name? I don’t get how it could possibly be short for Evangeline or Elizabeth. If you’re happy with Cassie without it being short for Cassandra, Effy definitely doesn’t need a longer name.

No, that's the French pronunciation. In Scandinavia, Germany etc it's pronounced Mar-gott.

Evangeline - I like this but I would think effy is a strange nickname for it. I do like effy as a nickname though.
Elizabeth - bit too traditional for me
Margot - don't like
Cassie - really like this

Elizabeth is my favourite, a lovely, classic, timeless name with some great shortenings/nicknames. I've never heard of Effy as a shortening for it though, I thought Effy was short for Euphemia.

Elizabeth is a lovely name with lots of nicer shortenings.
