Solitaire of baby names

You know that classic diamond ring...the solitaire.

Other trends come and go but the solitaire will always be the safe and stable choice that will never go out of fashion.

What baby names are like a solitaire?

Classic, timeless, elegant and always in fashion.

I don't see Jack as a solitaire name. In the UK most of these names have either royal or biblical (or both) links.

Elizabeth seems to be one of the most consistently popular girls' names. And I think Thomas wins for boys.

Yes I agree steppemum , sarah feels very dated to me even though it actually sounds so nice and has a beautiful meaning.

I feel that Hannah is following suit now too.

Anna may have had a revival from Frozen.

Yes I agree, boys names definitely stand the test of time much more.

well, I think Mary is very dated at the moment, my mums' generation were all Ann, Mary or Patricia. Ann has come back in, but Mary not.

I alos think Susannah soudns straight out of the 1970s, not that it isn;t a nice name, just that I don;t hear it as a classic.

I was a child in the 1970s, and all the names quoted so far would have been considered to be really boring and old fashioned at the tme, not classic at all.

I think our idea of classic changes with fashion too!
But boys names less so than girls, more of the boys names seen to survive the waves of fashion

Is Mary really a “solitaire” name, as it’s so low in the charts now.

I definitely would say Elizabeth and Catherine are as they have stayed consistent throughout the centuries.

I guess Anne or it’s variants of Anna is also a solitaire name. I also guess that Anna is a variant of Hannah.

Some names like Amelia and Sophia I’d say are almost in that category, but have become fashionable recently- not sure if that will make it date.

I agree boy names are much much easier. I’d say Henry and James are definitely solitaire names...not sure about jack, as it doesn’t feel like a very traditional name.
