Scared that they'll use "my" baby name!

I moved to a new area about a year ago and one of my DDs is in Year 1 at the local school.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and there are currently FIVE mums in the class who are also pregnant! They're all due before me, and our babies will all be in the same class for years. At least three of them are having a girl, like me.

DH and I have had our baby name picked out for a loooong time. I'm so worried one of these mums will use it! I'm not really friends with any of them except to say hello.

Aaagghh what would everyone else do if this happened?!

If it bothers you that much, go back to your list for a plan b name and have it on stand by in case one of them uses it.

It really shouldn’t matter though, you’re not even really friends with these women, you or them might move away or choose a different school before your children reach reception and you can’t guarantee that your child will never have the same name as a classmate (I’m specifically thinking of a baby group I used to take DD to where 3 out of 10 of the babies were called Quinn!).

@Awwlookatmybabyspider - sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, you know. Of course I know how names work. I also know that I want my daughter to have her own name and I've never lived in such a fertile place

@spugzbunny ahhh I don't know what I'd do! Guessing it didn't happen to you in the end?

I had the same anxiety when I was pregnant! For me it was kylie Jenner's baby and a few friends at work! You can absolutely still use it if it's used by someone you know.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/02/2019 17:19

Of course its fine. Yes she may well be one of a few, but so what. How do you think names work. 7 billion of us all have a unique name.

BirthdayKake · 27/02/2019 17:16

Hmm good point Fatted. I am anxious, jealous, stressed and upset about everything right now. I know it's hormones but it's hell. This is the latest thing. It really does matter to me though!

Does it really matter?! I honestly couldn't tell you the names of half of my DC' class mates.

BirthdayKake · 27/02/2019 17:12

@teyem 😂 yes that would be effective, but would probably earn me even less friends. Sigh. It's a tiny village here too! Everyone would know.

Is there a website or something with the top 500 girls names? I'm wondering where it is now...

it doesn't matter sometimes there are 3 of the same name in a class, they get round it somehow.

teyem · 27/02/2019 17:10

You could get a personalised t-shirt with the name of your baby emblazoned on the front with a pic of your baby scan underneath to hammer home your first choice.

Hamsternauts · 27/02/2019 17:10

If it's not top 100 you'll probably be ok

BirthdayKake · 27/02/2019 17:10

We haven't told anyone the name!

undercoverhero I totally get that!! I was originally due at the same time as Megan and Harry but miscarried.

BirthdayKake · 27/02/2019 17:08

Thanks for answers. I don't think it's in the top 100. Part of the appeal is that it isn't relatively common!

I'd feel so weird using it, especially as I've sort of fallen out with one of the mums (long story!) and they're all a fairly close bunch so would LOVE bitching about it.

Hamsternauts · 27/02/2019 17:08

I'd probably say "Oh wow that's the name we've picked too! I guess when they go to school they can add an initial on the end" Or else tell them now what you are picking and they can either avoid it or go with the same name.

Soubriquet · 27/02/2019 17:07

Well you can’t really rant and rave at them for “stealing your name” can you?

So it’s either hope they don’t use it, have a back up or use it anywayb

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 27/02/2019 17:07

Do not forewarn anyone of the name op!!

undercoverhero · 27/02/2019 17:07

I am having the same anxieties however mine are with Prince Harry and Megan. My guess is we are due the same time and I would be devastated if they chose my baby name for their child. We have had it picked out from the moment we found out the gender and would hate for people
To think we named our child after theirs.
In all honesty it's quite petty but it's been bothering me a lot lately so I know how you feel lol.
Just try not to worry until it happens. You never know it may not even happen at all Smile

EdWinchester · 27/02/2019 17:06

Well there's absolutely nothing you can do except hope. If it's a popular name, you might be unlucky.

And have another name in reserve.

babycatcher411 · 27/02/2019 17:05

Still use it! Who cares what anyone else calls their child, the exception to the rule there would be my own sister. Clearly if someone else calls the child that name, they think it’s a nice name too. Try not to worry about it.
