I like Niall. I like Oliver too, but Niall is less common.

123Flopsy · 28/02/2019 17:57

There are 4 Olivers in our Scouts group (of 13)! It is a very common name, having been nr 1 for several years!

I'd avoid it on that basis. It may we'll fall out of fashion and start to sound dated.

NunoGoncalves · 28/02/2019 15:31

my SIL is a teacher and her reception class has 9 Olivers in it

WOW. Is that serious or just an exaggeration? Because 9 Olivers in one class, out of what must be about 15 boys, is incredible. Only 1 in 50 boys was named Oliver in 2013, so the chance of one class of 15 boys having 9 Olivers in is 0.000000000002 (one in five hundred billion!)

Your SIL should probably start playing the lottery?

Halloumimuffin · 28/02/2019 14:40

I'm not a huge fan of Niall myself, but it's a perfectly good name and yes, my SIL is a teacher and her reception class has 9 Olivers in it...

NunoGoncalves · 28/02/2019 13:56

Sorry, I used to know a kid who pronounced it Nile. Now I know a grown up who pronounces it Niall

In my accent those are pronounced exactly the same!

OP, I don't love Niall but it's much, much better than yet another Oliver!

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 27/02/2019 23:41

Oliver.

Although the person who said it sounds like you have a mouthful of marbles made me laugh 😂

Milolioliv · 27/02/2019 15:55

I prefer Oliver over Niall, but that is a personal taste

dreichuplands · 27/02/2019 15:53

Niall

RiverTam · 27/02/2019 15:46

neither.

😀 it can be hard when you first join a forum.

Milolioliv · 27/02/2019 15:40

Thankyou GreatDuckCookery, I think I might've done that now (I'm not very techy 😂)

Not sure if I'm posting to the correct place (this will be my first post)
My partner and I have managed to settle on a girls name (Ashleigh Olivia) but if we have a boy we are going to be stuck! We have 3 we like, but none of them really stand out for me. Please help!

George - I do really like but I keep hearing it everywhere! Especially now we have the young Prince, George and I realise now that is also the name of Peppa Pig's little brother 😂
Charlie - we both love this name but I didn't know if people still associate cocaine being called "charlie"
Jesse - another name we both really like but I didn't know if I'd be setting him up to be bullied with what most people would consider is a girls name. And I didn't know if Jesse sounded too American?
The middle name will be Connor and so I'm struggling to find names that ring well with that!
Thanks for any advice :)

Livid21 · 27/02/2019 09:59

Oliver is so boring you might as well just call him “baby”. Every other under-5 round here is an Oliver. Also it sounds like you have a mouthful of marbles.

starkid · 27/02/2019 09:56

Niall

PBobs · 27/02/2019 06:47

I know a Niall and he's a great guy. Sonthat name wins for me.

Flamingosnbears · 25/02/2019 13:44

Niall all the way!

BabloHoney · 25/02/2019 13:28

Love Niall
Oliver is nice too but very common at the moment

MikeUniformMike · 25/02/2019 13:03

Niall.

HareandTortoise · 25/02/2019 10:02

Niall for me. Well known but underused and lovely imo. I really dislike Oliver (and Olivia), although I'm clearly in a minority given how popular both are!

Shadow1234 · 25/02/2019 10:02

Niall

MercyBodle · 25/02/2019 09:34

Niall

123Flopsy · 25/02/2019 07:48

Niall

But only because Oliver is SO dull from overuse!

Sophronia · 24/02/2019 23:29

Niall

Aquilla · 24/02/2019 22:11

Sorry, I used to know a kid who pronounced it Nile. Now I know a grown up who pronounces it Niall.
I'd probably go with Oliver but there are a fair few of them about.
