Girls name list - adding and removing some names

Hi all,

I recently started a thread of my girls lists and had a great response. I have since reviewed the list and taken some names off and added a couple. Would love to hear your thoughts on my new list. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but I will mention I am in Australia. Our DD is Elsie Isabelle named after my great grandmother who was also an Elsie not Elizabeth.

Beatrix - A new favourite of mine. Love Bea (Bee-a) and Bee nicknames but not Trix/Trixie. My biggest concern is the different ways of pronouncing the name. Both DH and I say Bee-uh-trix.

Genevieve - Love this name but hate the nickname Gen/Jenny.
Vieve/Vie/Ginny are sweet

Polly - DH current favourite, I really like it and wouldn't be disappointed in the name, just a bit worried about Polly want a cracker, Miss Polly had a dolly or Polly put the kettle on?

Heidi - not sure if this is too boring in comparison to other names

Sylvie - Kind of has the same spunk feel to Elsie. Last name ends in a strong er sound so Sylvia doesn't work.

For middle names we are going to go with DH family names. I would love to use something to honour his grandfather who passed away a long time ago but is still highly spoke about in his family. He was Edward but mainly went by Ted. I don't like any of the female versions of Edward but think Teddy would be sweet (especially for a middle name that isn't used that often)

Other names would be Leni after DH other grandfather (Leonard nn Len/Lenny), Therese or Frances after DH Nana.

Current combos I like
Beatrix Teddy - Favourite
Beatrix Leni
Genevieve Teddy - Close second
Genevieve Leni
Polly Therese - DH favourite
Heidi Frances
Sylvie Therese

Sorry for the massive post. Would love to hear feedback good and bad. I absolutely love Elsie's name and want something that I will equally love for this bub.

Really not sure about Leni though, always makes me think of Leni Riefenstahl. Which whilst obviously she was influential figure in 20th century film making I am not sure I would want to name a child after her.

My favourite combination would be Beatrix Frances! Classic, strong and interesting. Frances is one of my favourites and not well used now - the Frankies I know are usually Francescas. Not keen on Polly, sounds a bit nicknamey to me although I know people have it as their full name.

My favourites with Elsie are Beatrix Leni, Polly Therese and Sylvie Therese.

@aliceandkids77 thanks Smile I have been stressing and overthinking this babies name so much but think I've got some great names to choose from (and keep going back and forth as to which one is my favourite) Elsie was so easy to name, strong female family member but far enough back that she still has her own identity.

@Emily135 it's weird how I have never really been drawn to Beatrice and much prefer Beatrix for no real reason. I have however been reading more on other forums and slightly coming around to Beatrice but I think Beatrix has a bit more spunk to it.

@Twooter Frances floats up and down my list from up in the favourites to a name I don't mind.

Re female versions of Edward, I’ve known Edwa and Edna, and Edra in addition to Edwina.

@babylatts Beatrice is pronounced the same as Beatrix but with ‘s’ rather than ‘x’ at the end, so very similar. (Bea-uh-tris) xx

@NuffSaidSam it probably is us Aussie's butchering the English language. I think over here it's pronounced both ways. It surprises me that you're the first person who thought of put the kettle on when hearing Polly. It is a worry of mine but I still think the name is sweet and goes well with Elsie. Vivi is my favourite nickname out of all the names we like, I just dislike Jenny too much.

@DramaAlpaca thanks, as much as I don't care whether the names 'go together' in terms of theme etc (just don't want them to sound ridiculous together) I'm happy that Polly has the same sort of feel to Elsie.

I think Polly Therese goes best with your first DD's name. They'd both have a cutesy, vintage first name with a more classic middle name.

I've never heard Beatrix pronounced any way other than beer-tricks. Im in the UK though so maybe not a problem in Australia. I think if you were here you'd be constantly correcting people.

Also Bea is always pronounced Bee. Never heard Bee-uh to rhyme with Sia. That's maybe a location thing though.

I love Bea (prefer Beatrice to Beatrix though. I think the X sound is too harsh at the end).

I love Genevieve (nn Vivi) and Heidi. Not keen on Polly (and I did automatically think 'put the kettle on').

I don't like Polly or Sylvie.

Like all the middle names too.

@Aquamarine1029 we had a dog named holly growing up so doesn't quite work for me. We had Molly on our list when pregnant with dd1 but we like Polly a lot more

No trixies yet but lots have said Bea x she’s only 15 months so I’m sure we will have lots of variations but we’re hoping Bertie sticks ( she was Bertie in bump and Beatrix at very last minute but we love both)

@BlueMerchant we love the nickname Evie but have so many around us with kids either Evie as a stand alone name or something that gets shortened to it. I really like vee or veevee and even Eve but know that once they're in school I'll have no control over the gen/Jenny nickname Sad

@TatianaLarina great to hear that you know of two Polly's and they haven't had any troubles with parrots or kettles

@Honeydukesmum that's awesome! Love the nickname bertie Smile does anyone try to shorten her name to trix/trixie?

@Crunchymum we like both be-a and bee so wouldn't mind either for a nickname, would probably wait and see what comes naturally. My dh likes the names Pia and Sia but they sound terrible with our surname so Beatrix nn Be-a seemed to suit

Would you be using nn Bea (as in Be-a) not Bea to rhyme with pea?

I know few Bea's / Bee's (including DD) and Bea always rhymes with pea.
