Which do you prefer for a girl? Frankie is very popular near me but only with boys hardly any girls. The middle name will be Jean after DH’s nan who recently passed away. TIA Smile

I like both but Connie works as a full name whereas Frankie doesn't IMO.
Frankie is quite restrictive, it's cool and Tom boyish but what if she's not? I would have hated to be called Frankie growing up. Francesca on the other hand is gorgeous.

I loved Connie, until I heard my Canadian in-laws pronouncing it. Sounds like they’re saying ‘Carne’

Bumblebeesmum · 19/02/2019 08:30

No name is going to be loved by everyone so try not to be too disheartened. That said some people on here are beyond ridiculous ‘what about the name Tree’ Hmm

Connie is lovely although I agree quite nickname sounding (a lot less so than Frankie though).

I think Connie although wouldn’t be my choice as I’d want a ‘proper’ name - would not be out of place or seem odd in a generation of Millie Livvy Teddy Archie Freddie etc etc

So Connie is perfectly lovely and for her generation the lack of longer name wouldn’t be likely to cause an issue.

If it was me I’d go for Connie with something on the birth certificate that I liked & gave her future options;
Cadence
Cadenza
Catherine
Cassandra
Cynthia
Callandra
Or two names that get the nickname;
Cora Enid

Camille Norah
Cecily Marnie
Clara Naomi

But Connie is beautiful so don’t let people put you off as no matter what you choose someone will hate it

Good luck

Connie.

Marcipex · 19/02/2019 07:22

Frankie, though prefer Frances or Francesca.
Connie is awful.

MercyBodle · 19/02/2019 07:17

I much prefer Frankie, and Frankie Jean is lovely. Where I live (Australia) Frankie as the full name is a popular girl's name (currently no 55 in popular names). I note in UK it's more used for a boy's name atm, but along with popular girl's names like Darcy in the UK I bet Frankie for a girl is growing.

Hi OP.
We had our DD last week and went with Frankie in the end for her name. Had nothing but ♥️ of other people for it

Pippathenippa · 11/02/2019 12:08

Really helpful @Mscandylamb thanks for taking the time!

Neither. Both are old granny names.

@user1549770904
I have a Connie and i love it. I get compliments on her name all the time x (we must have similar taste as Frankie was also my second choice) smile

How funny! Did you have any other names? Grin

Connie seems to be more popular. I think DH is swaying more towards Connie. I do love Connie & I think it goes well with our other daughters name. Smile

connie definitely

MikeUniformMike · 10/02/2019 16:40

Connie

CloserIAm2Fine · 10/02/2019 16:00

My first choice would be Frankie short for Francesca

Then Connie

Not Frankie as a stand-alone name for a girl.

Cbeebiesrehab · 10/02/2019 13:46

Connie

WoahThereMama · 10/02/2019 08:51

Connie is nice. Frankie is awful imo.

YouSetTheTone · 10/02/2019 08:46

A vote for Connie!
I sometimes work with a very lovely and cool Frankie but for some weird reason EVERY TIME I use her name/ hear it said it jars with me. It shouldn’t as it does suit her but... I think I just find it ‘very’ masculine in the way I don’t find other unisex names like Charlie/ Max/ Alex.

Also know a great little Connie, about 8, and have realised what a lovely (and pretty unusual without being weird) name it is.

If you like the ‘ie’ ending what about Annie?! I know an Anya nn Annie and love it.

E20mom · 10/02/2019 07:59

Oh neither, sorry.

FlagFish · 10/02/2019 07:48

Connie by a mile!

Boxerbinky · 10/02/2019 07:46

Frankie was my girl name! I had a ds though and it we didn't want it for a boy. My mums middle names was Frances so I saw it as a nod to her. I still love it - I do like unisex names though Grin

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 10/02/2019 07:24

Constance nn Connie. Frankie is dreadful.

TillyTheTiger · 10/02/2019 07:11

I love Constance nn Connie. Would give her more options when older if she wants to use the full version.

stellarfox · 10/02/2019 07:06

I’d go with Constance nn Connie. It has a bit of a vintage chic vibe to me

Peachbubble · 10/02/2019 07:04

I'd choose Connie. I know two, both are Connie, not Constance.

Bubastes · 10/02/2019 04:09

Concerned about the 2 comments saying Frankie is trying to hard to be cool!

Don't be concerned about that. 'Trying too hard' is an insult that's thrown out all the time on here by snippy people who don't like your taste in names. It's dull and predictable.

You're supposed to try hard to find a name you love.
